Day One Thousand Thirty Six #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

We went out with the morning work force. Elijah wanted to look about those debris fields again.

Some other groups coming up from the valley, left the road and mingled with those from the slave quarter. Filthy rags hung on their emaciated frames. They attempted to shoulder their way among the workers from the city. It was obvious they desired to gain access to the slave quarter but in their weakened state they were easily forced away.

They looked pitiful, yet cunning, as they slunk back down the road.

Who knows what they would be capable of given the strength and the chance to wield it.

And for that matter, those opposing them were little better.

Things are spiraling downward.

Day One Thousand Thirty One #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

We found the spot where the tanker truck had been abandoned. Or, at least, we thought we did. For whatever wreckage had been there, had been removed.

We did not stay long on the busy thoroughfare after that, but at the first opportunity we struck off onto a mountain path. And slowly made our way to the place where  we had once waited with Meesa.

First thing this morning we moved to a vantage point from which we could evaluate the movements in and out of Damascus.

We were keen to know if any changes have been enacted since last we were here.

Elijah was pleased when he saw a group of his pupils emerge with the morning work force.

Day Nine Hundred Eighteen #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

Though not exactly conclusive, the news Jezer brought was about an individual from the distant south who had been haunting the old Hamashiachite quarter, seeking Elijah by name.

Elijah was immediately convinced this had to be the one we were looking for. But Jezer and I prevailed upon him to wait until today to go out to find him.

The quarter was very much changed. Many new peoples have been brought in to repopulate it and supply a work force for the rebuilding.

By a roundabout series of connections Jezer landed us in the individual’s own habitation.

But he was then out.

We took a chance and waited for his return.

We were rewarded later when in walked Raj G.

Day One Hundred Fifty Eight #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

The movement back into the east end is under way. After reconsideration, only two thirds of the work force will return. The rest will remain behind and prepare for the latter harvest.

Lyle plans to contact Moglen and ask if he can meet with the representative of the world authority. He believes it to be only logical at this stage. For my part, I doubt that Stan has the courage to meet with us.

I helped the widow and her son back into their home. Grazie lent a hand, and though she knows she is welcome to stay, she has volunteered to remain behind in the field.

Later I had the urge to check the first district.

It was closed.
