The Fairy Diary Day 1

Here is what I could now read on the page:

At long last I am allowed to contribute to the collected wisdom of our people.

Why is age tied to that privilege? It seems so unfair. Are all my experiences before now unworthy?

I’ve been sampling what has been shared before, and I think I’m so much smarter.

(Though I can’t wait to try that transformation trick on that greedy Roseberry).

Good thing he can’t read this.

I wonder if anyone has mentioned me. Maybe I shouldn’t mention anyone by name.

No, there are names mentioned everywhere.

Now to prepare for my first appearance on the Fairy Council. The first time in fifteen hundred years that a Meribabell has taken a seat among the rulers of the kingdom of Faerie.

Conjecture is all we have as to the why of Mawuli’s departure. His parents, the Purser and Mary, had no inkling that he would do such a thing. Though they did note that he has grown quite independent.

It is my considered opinion that he would not have acted without first consulting the Spirit. But why he had not sought the wisdom of others for a confirmation has me puzzled.

As for myself I feel an overpowering desire to go up to Jerusalem to look for him.

Elijah, however, remains noncommittal. He will not budge an inch until summoned to do so.

Magwich has come to us today with the Raj twins and we allowed them to make the attempt.

The wisdom of the directions only became clear after the events unfolded. I received confirmation of the instructions as related by Reuben (and reiterated by Elijah), but they gave me great difficulty, for they required me to break the covenant struck between Elijah and me – to never separate.

But I set my mind to obey and we did.

When Moglen left the high place, I crossed over to it while Elijah and Reuben distracted the drone.

I crushed the idol with any rocks that came to hand and tossed the pieces into the fire.

After giving the drone a chance to record the proceedings, Elijah brought it down with his raised staff.

Swiftly I rejoined my friends and we departed.

Mother’s Day poem

Mother's Day

Today’s a day
Like any other
The sun will shine
The birds will sing

But this day
Not like any other
We set aside
To sing your praise

For your strength
For your wisdom
For your love
We thank you now

All these things
You give your family
Every day
Come rain or shine

Now we rise and
Call you blessed
And I’m grateful
You are mine.

Day One Hundred Forty Three #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

The first district gate was wide open when we arrived mid-morning. Kip was not waiting for us outside. We found him inside, seated in the square.

Lyle had wanted to come alone and leave me with the harvest crews in the field. There is some wisdom to such a course of action, but I could not acquiesce. Still he made me state my case before relenting. I brought up two points: one, Kip was expecting both of us, and two, Grazie, if there, was expecting me.

As it turns out, Kip was alone, and he has never heard of anyone named Grazie. But he did share the same warning, beware his fellow leaders, especially Moglen. He returned with us.

Day Eighty One #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

Icicles on the tent this morning. The freezing level has dropped. And we have no way of knowing for how long. Thankfully there is no snow on the ground, just ice where any water had collected.

All were glad to see the sun later, especially Rufus and Clarissa. My guess is that all the ice will be gone before long.  So we decided to wait and give it a chance.

Lyle let me wander about without constant supervision, or what seemed to me to be strict scrutiny.

Finally, our patience was rewarded, a check of the path showed it again passable.

It is now looking the better part of wisdom to take the pass as the summit above remains white.
