We lost the opportunity to descend into the creek-swallowing abyss, waiting for the High Fairy to respond to our questions. Finally, it became too late for us to attempt it. I began to doubt that his excellency was on the other end of our communication, and the nagging thought arose that someone or something, opposed to us was posing as him to deceive us.

The quaking renewed this morning with a vengeance. Under Merlin’s prompting we moved our camp back from the area of the creek, as the hole in front had ceased its length-wise split, and began to widen.

To my mind it made it all the more imperative to get a closer look down in that abyss. Dunfallon agreed, so we prevailed upon the wizard to allow us to take Conjil down into the depths.

However, Gibley insisted that his dragon was not going anywhere without himself in charge. This was amenable to Merlin and ourselves. So, with the goblin substituting for Navril and as soon as the ground ceased its movement, we set out.

With the two of us seated behind the Gibley, Conjil dropped from the edge of the abyss and glided to the floor far below where the creek had a new bed. Looking around us it was clear that descent via dragon was the best option, for there were no trails or pathways on the walls that would have worked quite so well.

We headed upstream to where the creek fell from above in a waterfall. Checking behind it revealled a tunnel of recent formation. (Gibley remarked that it looked to be the work of a worm). We proceeded with more caution – but we should have paid closer attention to Conjil. For out of the darkness a blue blur crossed our path. And before we knew it our dragon caught it in a stream of flame from her throat.

Amongst ourselves we decided it had to be a Frost Fairy. So we took up the remains and carried them back up to Merlin.

The Will’o’the Wisp was still unresponsive, but there was no need for the others to unloose their cloaks to light their way by the shine from their armor as my pendant in this smaller passage gives light enough for all.

The babble of the brook was good company as it kept up a merry tune as we traveled along. Though at times it increased to a roar when we came out at the foot of a waterfall.

After a couple of such instances we began to fear that we may no longer be paralleling the Low-way, and might miss altogether the dark elf stronghold.

A check with Rumble’s map was inconclusive. And Noralei’s compass has been no help for quite some time as it continues to point to the ancient dark elf capital so very far behind us.

We halted when we arrived at a junction of five passageways. While Dunfallon hastens to check each one, the rest of us are resting.

Day Four Hundred Thirty Seven #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

At long last we found a way up off of the beach.

It was during one of our down times. Elijah sat facing the ocean while communing with the One. I found a rivulet that sank into the sand before reaching the sea and followed it back in hopes that it would lead to an opening in the cliff wall. Or perhaps even a valley that could carry us into the interior.

Instead its source was a pool at the foot of the rock wall, fed by a waterfall down its face.

And running parallel to it was a rickety stairway structure. I clambered to the top and there, sitting abandoned was a lovely villa.

I ran to fetch Elijah.

Day Three Hundred Fifty #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

The Captain told us that loading should be completed tomorrow. The last item is due to be delivered then.

Knowing our time was short we got an early start.

The high hills hemming in the city are dotted with the homes of the well-to-do. One look and I despaired of finding this other group of believers. Elijah, however, singled out one hillock from the rest.  It was the only one graced with a waterfall. Which indicated the presence of a stream or brook at the top.

Following his lead we found a villa beside the stream that fed the waterfall. And a group of Hamashiachites baptizing. Upon seeing Elijah they crowded around in welcome.

We stayed the night.
