Day One Thousand One Hundred Fourteen #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

The harbor was empty by the time we left last night. And not a soul around to ask what was going on. Even our guards were in the dark.

They took us back to the villa (or as Elijah likes to say, we escorted them to safety). And while he held vigil in our set apart room, I turned in.

I felt groggy upon waking, almost drugged. And I had some difficulty gaining entrance into the set apart room as Elijah did not answer my knocking.

I was at the point of asking a guard’s help, when Tomas exited the room with Elijah.

Tomas worked the rest of the day on the villa’s power problem. And Elijah filled me in.

Tomas had stopped in to check on us this morning and to look into some problems with the power in our villa. (At the behest of the leader of our guard detail – the Supreme Commander is doing all he can do to keep us “happy”). We did not have long to confer, for almost immediately he was called away to the desalination plants.

Within the hour word filtered back that the installation had been attacked, but there was no damage. The defenses put in place beforehand by Tomas had thwarted it.

Elijah and I were glad to hear that our friend was safe too. Yet the thought came that this incident would only reinforce the Supreme Commander’s belief about us.

Our guards called up reinforcements this morning and ordered our villa surrounded. This was in reaction to reports that world government loyalists had broken out of their holding camp and were roaming the vicinity.

Tomas was out, so I acted the liaison with our guards. While touring the perimeter I witnessed them turning away roving bands with extreme force. If they had been armed our guards may not have been able to repel them.

In the afternoon the Supreme Commander put in an appearance. He came to check on our well-being and to assure us that the problem had been dealt with – decisively.

After he had left, I sought Elijah to tell him that I thought I had seen Moglen.

My thoughts turned to Quasimo today. No doubt prompted by our new surroundings.

Tomas and Mr Kagi have ensconced us in a palatial villa very much like the one in which Quasimo had us pause for a meal on our way out of Babylon, not long after Stan thought he had eliminated Elijah and myself.

To get to it they led us by immense holding pens in which many loyal citizens of the world government had been incarcerated. The stench from within was horrific.

Apathy and neglect can be as deadly as overt hostility.

Tomas no sooner had left when he returned with another guest in tow. Quasimo’s cousin.

She had been sent from the hiding place to retrieve us.

Day Four Hundred Thirty Seven #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

At long last we found a way up off of the beach.

It was during one of our down times. Elijah sat facing the ocean while communing with the One. I found a rivulet that sank into the sand before reaching the sea and followed it back in hopes that it would lead to an opening in the cliff wall. Or perhaps even a valley that could carry us into the interior.

Instead its source was a pool at the foot of the rock wall, fed by a waterfall down its face.

And running parallel to it was a rickety stairway structure. I clambered to the top and there, sitting abandoned was a lovely villa.

I ran to fetch Elijah.

The Captain told us that loading should be completed tomorrow. The last item is due to be delivered then.

Knowing our time was short we got an early start.

The high hills hemming in the city are dotted with the homes of the well-to-do. One look and I despaired of finding this other group of believers. Elijah, however, singled out one hillock from the rest.  It was the only one graced with a waterfall. Which indicated the presence of a stream or brook at the top.

Following his lead we found a villa beside the stream that fed the waterfall. And a group of Hamashiachites baptizing. Upon seeing Elijah they crowded around in welcome.

We stayed the night.
