Day Three Hundred Forty #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

Elijah monopolized the Purser most of the day – actually it was longer than that, commencing yesterday after I finally tracked him down and informed him about our conversation. They have been held up in the sanctuary cabin through the night hours.

If the Captain had not needed him, who knows if they would not still be at it.

I took his place in the sanctuary cabin with Elijah. And Elijah filled in what gaps were remaining for a better understanding on my part. Of particular note is the revelation that the group to which the Purser’s mother belonged and that of the sign of the fish in our last port are one and the same.

Truly His ways are higher.

Day Three Hundred Twenty Three #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

Elijah assures me that Stan had been totally unaware of our presence. And further, Stan’s perception is so deceived that he fully believes that he commands the fantastic being and hence every situation.

He stated this revelation to me on the bridge of the ship, as we stared back at the island shrinking in the distance. The skies above it have returned to normal. And the Captain watches with approval as the darkness flees from before us.

The Purser reports that the world government official (whom we know as Stan) failed to return before our stated departure. He can only surmise that he has remained with his cargo. This is at odds with their original understanding.

I await more revelations.

Day Two Hundred Sixty Nine #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

I convinced Elijah to return with me into the building above. I wanted him to get an understanding of the city’s layout. And I had something important to share – between us alone.

We felt the burn in our calves after ascending those stairs.

Coming out of the stairwell on the 20th, the view of where we’ve been, greeted us – the river, the bridges and the distant mountain. We crossed to the back where the view of where we’re going awaited.

There were stark contrasts – lots of construction ahead on the left – nothing to the right.

Elijah thanked me. He now knows where we will go next.

I then shared that I saw Stan last night. Roaming the deserted streets below.
