The Fairy Diary Day 428 #TFDbyRWOz2

Meribabell writes:

Merlin, Rumble and I descended into the depths of Gilgorgon’s mountain. Gabhe desired to go with us, but felt herself in a bind. On the one hand, she wanted to brave the hazards with us, but she could not shake the onus of responsibility bestowed upon her by the dwarf king. Thus the mountain goat remained behind.

In the midst of our conference yesterday I had written a note on the scroll to the High Fairy to brief him on our plans. No answer had been forthcoming until I checked again just as we entered the underground passage to the other dwarf kingdom.

There waiting was his excellency’s reply, containing two bits of news- the goblins report that all is quiet on their frontier with Artoxon’s kingdom – and that the Dromadil pixies had executed the dark elf Hawk for the murder of two of their guards.

I was saddened at the news about Hawk (Rumble not so much).

Merlin took the lead. He had been here before, of course, when he and Gilgorgon battled the invading dark elves. Our way was brightly lit, for Gilgorgon must have left the oil flowing after he and his troops passed. It was welcome, even cheery. But I admit to being on edge the further we went.

Meribabell writes:

However the theft was accomplished we reached an agreement that we needed to descend back down and take the underground passage to the Low-way of the dwarves and inquire after Artoxon’s people. It is my fear that since it is highly likely that the dragon came via those passages, the serpent could very well have raised havoc among them. When I broached that possibility to Gilgorgon he forthrightly supported my idea. In fact he deputized us as his ambassadors in order to lay the groundwork for healing the breach of longstanding.

In answering my query on this topic, the High Fairy was quick (and short) in adding his support. Evidently things are quite hectic at present in the Faerie Kingdom.

There has been no news from Merlin.

After Dunfallon made arrangements for the care of Gabhe, we set off on our new adventure.

Meribabell writes:

A reply from the High Fairy acknowledged my message and assured us that our request had been received by the Dromadil pixies and will soon be put in motion by the goblins.

From him we also learned that a contingent of the dark elves was holding the entrance to the underground passage down in the canyonlands and all attempts at forcing them back by Nililitil’s forces have failed.

We have had some difficulties ourselves. The floor of the passageway is no longer level and in fact is broken up more and more – especially in the areas where streams bubble up and pass across our path and out by their own course. I can imagine some cases in which this whole passageway is overflowed with raging torrents.

I am so thankful that now is not the case.

Day Two Hundred Sixty Seven #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

We would have (and could have) traversed the underground passage in the space of the daylight hours. But we had some unforeseen obstacles and equally unforeseen discoveries, all of which decided us to remain down here for awhile.

First, our progress was impeded and slowed down by a blockage. A section of the tunnel ceiling (a floor from the structure above) had caved in and all access around was cut off. We were at the point of turning around when Elijah found an entrance into a building. We entered and by trial and error made our way up and over the obstruction.

It was all providential. Our delay meant that we encountered a band of people that needed our help.
