Day Two Hundred Eighty Six #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

Twenty three days remain. We got that point across readily enough. For emphasis, Elijah stepped towards the government officials, and they cowered back.

In response the leader told us to leave, as we had delivered our message, and as to our ultimatum, they refused to comply. He turned and pointed to the guards and said, “These guards are not here to protect us, but to hold back the crowd from assaulting you.”

I don’t think Elam would have found any likely candidates today; all in sight bore the mark and were present for the express purpose of supporting the officials.

I have a sense that the speaker is not the true leader, but rather the glowering woman, lurking behind him.

Day One Hundred Eighty Three #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

All await the ultimatum. It’s dependent, of course, upon when Moglen and the others discover their latest gambit has collapsed. In the opinion of most, it has already occurred. Four drones instead of the usual two buzzed the encampment and spread out from there.

Lyle called a meeting of his leaders, but even more people came. Hardly anyone reported to the fields. Everyone wanted assurance. Not just for the future. But for their next breath.

Lyle was the calm in the center of the storm. He directed their focus to where it should be.

Afterwards we went off together. I asked him what we were going to tell Moglen when he asks to speak to Flowers.

“The truth, of course.”

Day One Hundred Fifty Three #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

Pressure is mounting on two fronts.

Moglen is the undisputed leader now in the second district. It is even whispered that he may rise to rule the entire west end. We expect an ultimatum soon.

And Lyle faces opposition from two of his leaders. They were denied access to a west end market unless they bear the mark. They proposed that they take it on to represent the east end in these matters. I advised Lyle to counter their notion with the suggestion that they maintain their market here. Let the west end come to us, we set no restrictions.

Grazie worked diligently in our fields today. I worry about the return of her depression once the harvest is finished.
