Day Six Hundred Seven #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

Monotony got the better of the Captain today. Or so he explained it. He just had to take in a change of surroundings. Clear his head.

He decided to head off in the direction taken by the troops yesterday. None had returned so he thought it important to know what they were up to.

He ran into Elijah who was just returning from doing that very thing.

We all thought Elijah was out on the causeways again, but he too had felt the pull to check things out. What he found was an army camp spread out along a river.

Elijah thinks it is meant for a larger force than currently present. It is under construction.

Certainly good to know.

Day Six Hundred Two #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

A different pair of guards were at the crossroads this morning. So we knew there had been a change during the night.

I was wondering what would come next and talking with the Captain and Tomas about their views when Elijah joined us.

He announced simply that the troops would soon be making an house to house search.

At that very moment our neighbor appeared out of thin air and said he had a way around that problem.

Recovering from our shock, he took us down to the cellar and over to his house via a subterranean passage.

He believes his will be searched first and can signal to us when our fugitives need to hold up in the tunnel.

Day Three Hundred Six #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

Storm clouds blew in this afternoon. And appear to go on forever, encircling and closing in on the city. It seems too early as there yet remains three days to run.

Elijah and I discussed plans to get through the cordon and into our ship. We had just settled on a stratagem, when the said ship cast off from the dock and pulled away out into the roads.

Obviously Stan has identified it as ours and ordered her off. At the same time he has reinforced the troops on the perimeter around us.

I admitted disappointment, but Elijah remained non-plussed.

At that moment the storm broke loose. Lightning and hail fell from the turbulent skies.

They both spared us.
