Day Nine Hundred Twenty Five #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

Though Tomas and the Captain were disappointed about being removed from the search, they were understanding and even supportive about our stepping in to take over their latest lead.

I must say that I was not at first certain that our involvement was called for, nor even wise. But a revelation was granted to me through the night, a dream that came and went three times, and each one different, allowing me to see Elijah’s part, then Tomas’s here, and finally mine with Elijah. (The Captain asked me where he fit in but I had nothing to tell him).

So, for now, we await the timing for our adventure.

We ask the Spirit to lead that we may obediently follow.

Day Nine Hundred Twenty #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

Our meeting concluded, Raj P took over the consolation of his brother and folded him into his group.

With the new day we set about implementing our decisions.

We assigned to Jezer the task of running down what has happened to Raj G’s people. And Quasimo stepped up to help him in that quest. (I believe Jezer has opened up to be more amenable to taking someone with him).

Sensing the hour and the day at hand, Elijah and I took Tomas and the Captain aside to enlist their aid in finding the other parties that long ago (and far away) set out for their calling in Jerusalem. Their present whereabouts is a complete mystery to all but the Spirit.

Day Eight Hundred Ninety One #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

The road up to Jerusalem was crowded, and at times choked in both directions. Military vehicles held precedence and we pedestrians yielded the center whenever they appeared. Which was often.

The pedestrians were numerous and thankfully we blended right in.

Along the way we discussed strategies for locating our missing people. Elijah listened patiently to all my ideas. Until another interruption, this time, by a passing tanker truck.

That’s when Elijah announced the plan.

“I think we’ll walk to the center of the Holy City and announce ourselves.”

I turned to face him and he added, “And proclaim that the drought has not ended, but will continue.”

“And then what?” I asked.

“As always follow the lead of the Spirit.”

Tomas kept charge of Mei’s group overnight at Elijah’s request. And Mei talked long into the night with Elijah and me.

Well, mostly Elijah. I did turn in before everyone else.

I was first to awaken at dawn, however, provoked by a sense of unease. I drew aside to pray, but mere moments later Elijah joined me. Before we could exchange our thoughts a sleepy Mei arrived, wondering if we had heard the Spirit also.

Elijah turned around and looked up, pointing to the faintest of lights moving across the darkness. He invited her to point at it.

She did. And the light stopped as though struck, and tumbled from view.

Elijah sent Mei back to the front to lead.

Evidently they weren’t finished with Elijah. Hours after his return they collected him from our chamber and whisked him away again.

We were left on our own for hours on end. We talked freely amongst ourselves, not caring if anyone was eavesdropping.

Finally we concluded that we needed to settle ourselves down and embrace this time in the presence of the Spirit.

My thoughts were directed to intercession for our friend. I had just concluded that endeavor and was about to move on to intercession for the rest of us, when the door flew open and two guards charged in.

They demanded to know what we were doing and frisked us for communication devices.

They left when Elijah was returned.

Day Seven Hundred Twenty Seven #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

We only assume that a day has passed us by, now that they are leaving us alone. We have each in turn been taken away from the others for interrogation which was in a place somewhere also away from the light of day.

I was first. I assumed that their search of our room had turned up nothing. They wanted to know who we were working for and how we were communicating with them. I told them I had no answers for them other than that we worked for and communicated only with the Spirit.

Their time with Tomas and the Captain was even shorter. But with Elijah they spent the better part of the day.

We sense their frustration.

Day Seven Hundred Twelve #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

The consensus among us was unanimous. The time is past for our oversight of the army’s safety. Elijah shared his confidence that it is on track for its rendezvous with history.

We have our own appointments to keep. And all we know is that we are to go northward.

But we had no other choice than to keep traveling west in the pass. With eyes and hearts open to wherever the Spirit would pull us.

We passed by three offshoots headed northward. The Captain liked each of them, but one or the other of us was not in agreement. So we continued on.

So strange to say, the one we all agreed upon was directed southward.

We obediently took it.

Day Seven Hundred Eleven #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

Tomas has come down to earth from his emotional high of yesterday. We were up late listening to all that has happened to him since we’ve been apart.

But it all boils down to the revelation for which he has been prepared by those very events, the most recent of which we were all too familiar with.

On the strength of these occurrences Tomas has convinced the Supreme Commander to release us to follow where the Spirit wills.

And so it came to pass that we were again on our own, free to do our oversight of the army, or not.

And that very point was the focus of the discussion between Elijah and Tomas as we renewed our trek.

Day Seven Hundred Seven #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

The communication from Tomas was already opened and we assumed read by other interested parties. On the face of it Tomas was assuring us of his well being and inquiring after ours. But there was a subtext that I was sure had eluded anyone other than our eyes.

It was much in my thoughts as we set out once more.

If I was correct in my assumption, the Supreme Commander was about to suffer the same fate as David at the hand of his son Absalom.

I was discussing the implications with Elijah and the Captain when the surrounding mountainsides of the pass sprang to life. And our attention was riveted on the threat around us.

Where was the Spirit?

Day Six Hundred Seventy Two #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

Elijah and I passed the day dodging patrols searching for us. Patrols set upon us by the innkeeper who recognized Elijah as the “troublemaker.”

Before he came back for me, Elijah hid the Captain and Tomas away somewhere in the mountains. And they are waiting for us there now.

When we will rejoin them is the question. For we are being held here at the direction of the Spirit for His purposes.

In our wanderings we noticed that the army’s tanker trucks are hard at work siphoning up any water that is left in the river. The whole process shouldn’t take much longer.

I wonder what the town will do once the army leaves and they’ve taken all they wanted.
