Day Eight Hundred Thirty #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

The traffic noise from the road was strong all night and intensified this morning. From our remove we scanned the length of the road section in view for the best point of crossing.

We set out for our chosen spot, but were overtaken on the way by Quasimo’s cousin. She had been dispatched to us with a warning.

A drone had circled the encampment at sunup, disappeared southward, then returned and headed westward. Quasimo believes it will return again and then head northward. She relayed his compulsion that we be alerted to that possibility.

We thanked her, only to have our gratitude increased when she suggested we follow the wadi around to the right where it crosses under a  bridge.

Day Seven Hundred Sixty Five #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

We set up camp in the dark last night. It took us that long to reach the spot designated by Tomas.

It was a comfortable place in many respects. In fact we may have waited til sunup before rising if it had not been for Mei giving the alarm.

She rousted us all after waking from a dream in which drones were descending upon us. Her dream was reality.

Elijah calmed and held us in place. “Let them get a look at us,” he said.

When they ringed us, he raised his staff and they tumbled out of the sky.

With no sign of pursuit visible on the ground behind us, we broke camp and took to the trail again.

Day Six Hundred Twenty Two #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

Tomas and I left camp before sunup to get a bearing on the army. We didn’t have to go far before catching sight of them spread across the horizon. Already there was movement and the clatter of preparations.

We reported our findings to Elijah and the Captain. I floated the estimate of a million men making up their force. Tomas thought their number to be less, but concedes they will pick up more on their way and will then probably surpass a million.

When we set out, Elijah held us to a path that paralleled their line of march on the right. There is much more cover to that side.

Elijah believes within three days we can pass them by.
