Day Eight Hundred Ninety Two #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

It happened much as Elijah planned.

We entered Jerusalem with the morning crowds. And made our way to its heart. There were depictions of Stan on every side. Much nicer than the paper posters we’d seen to date.

And soldiers stood guard on every street, scrutinizing every passerby.

In fact, one left his post to follow us. Elijah took the attention in stride. I moved to keep myself between the two. And to shield Elijah.

We emerged onto the Temple court and there Elijah announced to the multitudes the continuation of the drought. And closed his announcement with the promise of its deepening.

A great roar of anger arose.

And the guard made to seize us, but we were gone.

Elam has taken on the role as our protector, now that he no longer conducts groups out of the city. He has us ensconced in another empty building on the side of the city towards the seaport. The seaport will be our destination before the culmination of the next twenty one days.

Elijah discussed with me the mysterious woman hovering behind the city leader the other day. He too has the sense there is more to her than meets the eye. This Elam confirms. He spotted her watching us on the street today. He tells us she is the personal representative of the young man we know as Stan. Word is he is out of country, but is returning soon.

Day One Hundred Seventy One #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

I was about to write down that nothing happened today. Or, as a subnote, little that I was aware of. For it is unusual not to record anything.

But then Lyle returned.

He was alone. It was not what I had expected. This morning he left with Flowers into the third district to meet the merchant’s parents.

They had reached the street on which they reside, when ahead on the stair before their house they spied Stan waiting.

Flowers made an abrupt about face and evaporated from sight.

Lyle continued on and confronted Stan. But Stan would have none of that and dismissed him when Lyle had no mark to show when asked.

I think the gates are closing forever.
