Day Eight Hundred Twenty #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

We divided our attention today between watching our steps and observing the activity in the skies over the megapolis. The ground was uneven, so at times treacherous. Hence our caution. But the presence of fleets of drones and circling warplanes over the city were a another source of concern.

Quasimo thinks we have no need  to worry.  He was certain that they are celebrating his “successful” assassination of Elijah and myself. Even if he had to bring down the building to accomplish that end. (Though he joked that Stan would not be above charging him for the value of the structure).

I just hope we can make it out of the area before they ascertain that our bodies aren’t there.

Day Four Hundred Thirty One #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

A momentous day of broadening horizons. We indeed did turn our steps southward and revisited the tiny fishing village.

Elijah inquired of one of the villagers if there were any port cities further to the south. The villager was in the midst of enumerating three such cities when I noticed for the first time a huge land mass stretching across the ocean’s horizon in front of us. And I realized that cloudy weather had obscured it from us ever since our arrival.

Elijah switched his questions to this large island, and learned that there is a major port on its northern side.

Before leaving we made arrangements to ship out to said port with the fishing fleet early tomorrow morning.

Day Two Hundred Eighty #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

Elam, the name of the former madman, goes where we go and lives where we live. He hangs on every word that Elijah passes on to him.

Sy’s parents invited us (Elam included) around to the back of their residence where they supplied us with food. Elijah again tried to persuade them to go to their son, adding that the city’s days are numbered. They declined again, but this time I sense some hesitation.

We turned our faces to the city center. Along the way Elam stopped at each cross street and called out the dire warning. “Twenty nine days!”

Elijah spoke on the administration building’s steps. They still deny us access.

The crowds are getting bigger and linger longer.

Day Two Hundred Eleven Morning #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

Lyle writes:

Heat and hunger impede my steps. Though the first diminishes as the night evolves.

Upon setting out I found a walking stick, or staff, as one might say, considering its size. It has been helpful. It’s strength has become mine. I poke in advance of me whenever the way appears treacherous.
