We surveyed the area north of the village. Merlin took me to the creek to show me where its water dropped from view, abandoning its bed so that it no longer flowed by the village in its crook.

Then, finding nothing of consequence we went into the village itself. Before we got there the wizard told me that the Sprites, for safety, had moved to Dromadil. We had our pick of residences in which to pass the night – in miniaturized form of course – (Merlin more so than me – in fact I was closer to his size for the first time).

We were shaken awake in the early morning and returned outside (and to our normal sizes). The ground continued its shuddering as he led us to the base of the rainbow. Our friends arrived just as we reached it, and as soon as they were safely down Merlin dismissed the rainbow.

He instructed us to dig in here and set up camp. And wait. All indications were that whatever was coming – was coming from the north.

Merlin joined me in the Caretaker’s office and retrieved the seers stone and secreted it somewhere within his robe. I had nothing further to report from my monitoring. He told me to get prepared for he had chosen me to accompany him as soon as the dragon and wagons were got underway, we would go on ahead.

Navril with Noralei’s help, finished up their work on a harness for Conjil with which to pull the two fully loaded wagons hitched together in line. It took just a short while to acclimate the dragon to this new arrangement. Then she seemed quite eager to proceed.

Gibley and Noralei took their positions on Conjil. Navril climbed aboard the first wagon behind them; and Rumble and Dunfallon clambered aboard the second. The wizard instructed them to make for the base of the rainbow that had touched down on the road ahead. He waved his staff over the wagons as they passed by and they began to float behind the dragon. Merlin told Gibley to follow the rainbow all the way to the village of the Sprites where he and I would meet them.

Satisfied when they were off, Merlin turned to me, tapped my shoulder and in the blink of an eye we were standing at the other end of the rainbow – somewhere to the north of the Sprites’ village.

The wizard proposed that we look around until our friends arrive.

The sight that greeted me upon descending from the Caretaker’s office this morning, almost made me forget what I came down to report. For there in the assembly area, were weapons standing in rank and file – all on their own – no soldiers wielding them. Dunfallon was passing among them, shouting orders. And spears thrust and swords slashed and halberds chopped at the pertinent command.

I asked the pixie where the others were, and he answered that I could find everyone else in the shop.

I heard a great clatter coming from within that chamber well before I turned in through its doors. Rumble and Navril were racing about collecting and stacking the wood that Merlin was fashioning into boards of various shapes and sizes. And Noralei and Gibley were hard at work assembling boxes and wagons – I assume with which to transport Dunfallon’s “army.”

All their activity halted when the wizard came over to me. He asked if I had found the High Fairy. I had to tell him no – but that there was lots of shaking going on in the Sprites’ village. I told him it was constant and I could not see how it could remain standing much longer.

Merlin announced that we would be leaving for the Sprites’ village early in the morning. And beckoned everyone back to their tasks.

I returned to the Caretaker’s office and resumed my vigil.

With Merlin’s promise that Noralei was on her way, the wizard set tasks for us in the meantime. He set me up in the Caretaker’s office with his seers stone. He set it so I could monitor one place in particular – the village of the Sprites – and then alternate with a search for the High Fairy.

I was honored to be thought worthy to be entrusted with this task and to be allowed to utilize this precious tool. I was not sure what exactly I was looking for in the Sprite village but I assumed I would know it when I saw it. I did know who I was looking for in the other instances. As the view skipped around I was looking for any sign of his excellency.

While I was thus engaged, Merlin worked with Rumble, Dunfallon, and Navril to cull through the storerooms of the repository for useful items.

I believe our wizard friend foresees an armed conflict in the future. (Dunfallon tells me he is particularly interested in the weapons stored here).

Our chores were interrupted by the happy arrival of Noralei and Gibley on Conjil. I tore myself away from the seers stone for a brief moment to greet our returning friends, but I did not stay long – for I felt the weight of my responsibility too much.

Meribabell writes:

There were no qualms about allowing Cluyjil to descend down into the well past the pixie habitations and over to the troll domain underground. It proved a might tight at a couple points but the dragon did not appear to mind.

The trolls had heard of our coming and their leading chieftains came out to greet us. They cast appraising glances Cluyjil’s way and Dunfallon leaned on the dragon as a way of signaling that he belonged to us.

They listened respectfully to Merlin as he laid out his concern for the Sprite village to the North.

The trolls confirmed that they indeed had an operation ongoing up in that area and agreed to hold up further excavation until things could be investigated. Merlin thanked them for their understanding and asked permission to return soon to help them find a solution for both parties’ needs.

I felt good about the mutual respect evident in our meeting. And was glad to be off so soon.

But Merlin had one more request. He thought it good (I believe Dunfallon may have suggested it) to stop by Laguayil and pick up an endorsement from Nililitil for Noralei.

Since we had three days yet to get to the hearing, I approved.
