Day One Thousand Twenty Nine #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

Elijah and I went over our plans before our anticipated departure tomorrow. Not that we planned everything in minute detail. In our experience, collectively and individually, that would be counterproductive and would run the risk of missing the Spirit’s leading.

We did settle upon a direction.

At first I was all for heading north as I thought that the most likely place to begin our search for Tomas and Jezer after my talk with Quasimo yesterday.

Elijah dismissed that notion, not unkindly, but with an explanation that revealed he knew more than I did. His first pupils had been responsible for covering our crossing from that direction, our missing friends acted only to the south.

So, Damascus is our destination.

Day Six Hundred Seventy Six #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

Each one of us has stated his idea as to the best course of action going forward. And each idea has been vetted by the others in a full discussion. Mine has met with the most approval.

It’s based on a simple enough proposition. I pointed to the north and the ample presence of snow and ice on the mountain ranges in that direction and deduced that that offered the best possibility for water along the way..

But that being said we are all agreed to the need for waiting upon the Spirit’s leading and not our own understanding.

Elijah is concerned for what the army will do in this situation. He wants them where they need to be also.

Day Six Hundred Five #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

A sense of urgency, the result of yesterday’s revelations, has been the theme for today. We’ve each had to combat it in our own way. The key is not to rush headlong, but to wait and only move in the Spirit’s leading and in His peace.

I think we have each been concerned for the other and not at all turned inward on the self.

We know our destination, just not the timing.

The Captain would seize the moment and head off immediately, if we let him. But to his credit he will wait for confirmation.

For now we need to go about our day keeping things as normal as possible.

I joined Elijah out on one of the causeways.

Day Five Hundred Seven #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

Elijah says the time has come for us to move on. So I have been exploring the best options open to us.

Jordan wondered why we just don’t “disappear” like we did before. It made me wonder if he was ready to fulfill his part in the coming events. I was at the point of reprimanding him, when he declared that we needed to contact the trash collectors. He said the idea just popped into his head.

I took it as a confirmation as the idea was one of the options on my list. Both Elijah and I encouraged him (and indeed were encouraged ourselves) about this openness to the Spirit’s leading that Jordan is manifesting.

Now the next step.

Day Three Hundred Ninety #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

We slipped out of the city in the middle of the night. Elijah, the Purser’s family and myself. Not through either gate. But over the wall via the rooftop of an adjoining building.

Elijah and I have some valuable experience in this regard from our first days together.

We stumbled about a good deal until we discovered at last the road leading to the interior. From there on it was an easy march for all.

We halted at the same place that Mary, the children and I stopped four days ago.

Neither Elijah nor I know which direction we should go next. The Purser is all for striking out straight ahead. But we all agreed to await the Spirit’s leading.

Day Two Hundred Six Late Morning #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

Enough writes:

So good to rest after walking the night through. Though when moving I did not feel the hunger so keenly.

Wish I could wash. I was pelted with ash borne by the wind from the fires. Did my best to shake it off, but the smell lingers.

Should pass into the desert tomorrow.

Look to the Spirit’s leading.
