Day One Thousand Twenty Seven #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

It took all my resolve not to go out and look for their tanker truck and follow up any leads as to the whereabouts of Tomas and Jezer. Of course, Elijah’s unwillingness to deviate from our agreed upon schedule held me back too, but he did allow Quasimo to go to investigate.

I kept as busy as I could, but there was little I could do to help Mei since the return of Meesa and the Purser. Instead I tried to make myself useful to Reuben. He has implemented new procedures after reviewing our security here.

When Quasimo reappeared he confirmed the truck to be Jezer’s. He believes its placement had been instrumental to our successful crossing of the road.

The joy at our successful return was dampened by the news that not everyone from the Purser’s contingent had made it.

They are not just missing as if they took a wrong turn somewhere and got lost. Or held up by some barrier like we had been. Witnesses from a group led by Mawuli actually saw a missile strike obliterate them in their tracks.

Mei and Meesa who have been reaching out to those traumatized by the tragedy, enlisted Elijah’s aid today to bring them the peace of the Spirit.

Reuben is hard at work evaluating our security in the light of this incident.

I am helping but concentrating on what it means to our ability to bring others in.

At the least we were not taken down to the chamber to be locked up again. The unit attached to the tanker truck held no interest about the dam other than their immediate security.

Once its commander had his mission underway, the collection of water from the lake, he finally deigned to speak to us.

Tomas had been insistent with anyone within earshot until cuffed into silence by one of our guards.

So he was gratified at last to have the chance to request a communication with the Supreme Commander.

The unit commander was at first skeptical and almost dismissed his request out of hand.  That is until Tomas pressed him with the emergency code word.

The message was sent.

Just because we were set at liberty did not mean that we were free to leave. Our guards were dismissed to other duties which meant that instead of being under their sole observation we had the attention of the entire army wherever we turned.

The Supreme Commander had decided for reasons of security that we would not be allowed to depart from the camp. And orders were issued accordingly.

I was surprised at Elijah’s complaisance in the face of these strictures. However, Tomas and the Captain were unperturbed and welcomed the opportunity to take it easy.

Finally I realized I had my sights too attuned to the end goal and was not directing my immediate focus where it should be.

Day Three Hundred Sixty Three #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

The lone guard sent word to the Captain that he desired to speak with him.

He was quite agitated when the Captain, in the course of his rounds, at long last arrived. He demanded to know what exactly the Captain planned to do to ensure the security of his government’s container. He was aware of our shadow and the reports of various crew members have been feeding his suspicions.

The Captain explained his thoughts on the matter, much to the guard’s dissatisfaction.

I chimed in with the possible explanation that the warship may just have the same destination and only appears to be following us. And that we should not read anything more into it than we have evidence for.
