The Fairy Diary Day 198 #TFDbyRWOz2

Meribabell writes:

The terrain around us once again has changed. Very few plants poke their heads above the gleaming sands. Dunfallon, ever the curious pixie, sniffed and tasted a few grains, and announced to everyone that it is mostly salt. He was moved by pity for the struggling plants and begged us fairies to help them.

Rumble, Noralei and I talked it over and agreed to try. Noralei selected the largest patch of the plants and we concentrated our efforts there.

Rumble brought to the surface a water course from somewhere deep underneath our feet.

Soon the shoots of the plants were towering over our heads adding long broad fronds that blocked out much of the glare from the sun.

The new growth spread out from this one patch laterally and forward and back.

As we set out again we found the water course we are following has appeared on Rumble’s map and Noralei’s compass confirms it as our heading.

Day Nine Hundred Five #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

A sand storm seemed imminent throughout the morning, so I grounded the drone. And we hunkered down ourselves and did what we could to prepare for the coming blast.

Therefore we did not see the storm front veer away. Nor did we notice the approach of a lone figure crossing the sands to our position.

So we almost had a tragic incident when Jezer appeared in our midst, bearing his phony mark. He did not know he was among friends and those whom he first encountered tried to send him away, or worse.

I was first on the scene before anything untoward could happen. And hauled the more irate off of him.

Elijah dusted him off and made the introductions.

Day Six Hundred Twenty Nine #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

The road has disappeared under the sands of a desert. This fact has gone a long way to explain the absence of an army on the march behind us. They must have taken another route.

We stood there briefly to consider our options. The Captain and Tomas volunteered to continue on upon whatever track there might be ahead. Elijah set a time limit for their foray, and at its expiration they were to return here.

Elijah and I found a cooler spot and there turned our attentions to things of the Spirit.

By the time of their return we were all in agreement that our way ahead lay through the desert.

They had found a well on a caravan route.
