Day One Thousand One Hundred Three #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

Our guards called up reinforcements this morning and ordered our villa surrounded. This was in reaction to reports that world government loyalists had broken out of their holding camp and were roaming the vicinity.

Tomas was out, so I acted the liaison with our guards. While touring the perimeter I witnessed them turning away roving bands with extreme force. If they had been armed our guards may not have been able to repel them.

In the afternoon the Supreme Commander put in an appearance. He came to check on our well-being and to assure us that the problem had been dealt with – decisively.

After he had left, I sought Elijah to tell him that I thought I had seen Moglen.

Mei has brought blessings to everyone, but especially to those suffering in their confidence. It was my honor to introduce her to the Purser and his people.

Her team arrived this morning and immediately set to work organizing our exodus. Each one will take a small group through to the hiding place.

She informed us that the way north is fraught with many dangers – many new security measures have been put in place by the world government.

She has already conferred with Jezer and Tomas to advise them to abandon the tanker truck down here as it would be neither necessary nor practical to take with them.

For the moment I can only imagine what their reaction was to that.

It was strange to see other human beings going about everyday tasks. Such sights seem like forever ago.

We have entered the valley which we found dotted with small farms, and a town or small city rises from its center.

Much of the activity hereabouts deals with bringing water up from the river.

The Captain discovered why. The irrigation ditches are empty, the river being too low to feed them.

My concern grew. What would be their reaction if they knew Elijah was responsible?

We pushed on into the town. And there found an inn.

We plan to stay a few days, as Elijah has now told us he plans to end his fast in four days.

He needs rest.

The medical supplies were accepted with hardly a word of thanks. I did not consider this an indication of bad manners but rather the extent of the shock they had suffered, and by which they were still affected.

The fact that most of the supplies were machines and not immediately of use due to the lack of power to run them, may have colored their reaction. But there was no corresponding change in attitude when we handed over two container loads of generators.

Elijah and I did get ashore and did our best to walk the clogged streets.

It was on this outing that we came across an ancient temple, now repurposed and plastered inside with giant posters of Stan.

Enough writes:

Discovered another pool far from the others. Its water is brackish, fit more for bathing  than drinking.

My grimace after the first (and only) sip brought to mind my reaction to something similar in one of my dreams.

That involved water also.

The very same?
