Our dilemma has deepened – as our leaders cannot agree where to send us next. The High Fairy has heard anew from the queen, she now demands that we travel to the Faerie Kingdom. However, Merlin insists that we must set our sights on the evil that emanates from that spot on the horizon.

And I find myself stuck in the middle. Rumble, Dunfallon and Noralei all look to me for the decision. They all feel that it is mine, and only mine to make.

I went off to be alone with my thoughts. This time I avoided the rampart and went down to the courtyard garden. That spot on the horizon may have been out of my sight but not out of my thoughts.

At the back of the garden I came across a curious looking flower – black in leaf and petal. My pendant had an adverse reaction to it. And I knew in the instant that we must journey off to the far horizon.

The High Fairy kept vigil with Merlin the night through while they consulted his seer’s stone. Together they came to the conclusion that the same force allowing the adversary access to the wizard’s castle was also blocking all views of that speck on the horizon.

They are most alarmed.

The High Fairy uncovered the same phenomenon back in Nonin-gal-dith. Yet he never located any agent responsible.

Rumble and Dunfallon remain deep in the library with as of yet nothing of substance to report.

Noralei and I lent a hand wherever we could. We feel quite useless otherwise.

I caught the High Fairy later in the evening and asked after Nimrood and his kingdom. He told me that the situation was settling – with most of the refugees now returned to their farms and villages. Yet there are those few who have not.

However he added that concerns were growing in the capital of the Faerie Kingdom. The queen has asked him to send our group to her.

We agreed that we face a dilemma as to which will be the best course of action.

Since we claimed to be here on the orders of the queen of the Faerie Kingdom, Roseberry will not listen to me. They brought in Noralei and the Wisp and placed them in a cell down the way from where they are holding Rumble and myself.

I do not know why Dunfallon was not with them. I am thankful he was not. Do they even know he was with us? Or did he simply escape their notice?

I have to think that riding his eagle about like he did, how could they have failed to notice?

For now I will not say anything. And I hope Noralei will keep mum too.

But I am not sure about Willie.

Thankfully I was able to dash a note off to the High Fairy about our peril undetected.

The Fairy Diary Day 9

Meribabell writes:

This is all unfamiliar territory. I know quite well the lay of the land in the other direction. Many times I have been to the capital where our Queen reigns. Which, no doubt, was why Rumbletwist has chosen this direction. He wants to stay beyond the reach of all authority.

The further I go away from our village the more I slow down. Partly it is the strangeness of something new. Mostly it is the fear of falling into some trap or other.

Last night I could hear something moving around among the trees and brush where I had chosen to rest. I sat and listened until I was sure it had crawled away.

It was an uneasy night.

Thankfully there is only one path before me, so Rumbletwist has to be somewhere ahead.

I may have my eyes on it, but my mind is perplexed with thoughts of how to capture and take him back.
