Day Six Hundred Sixty Eight #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

Our innkeeper was curious as to why only three from our party ever come out of our rooms. As more questions followed I realized he was concerned that we may be spies operating in advance of the much talked about army.

Tomas and the Captain have reported to me that it was definitely headed our way, and that most in town are speculating about whether to flee or stay put.

I was very insistent to the innkeeper that he has nothing to fear from us. He nodded acceptance of my assurance, but I doubted his sincerity.

When we were all together again, I sought to warn them about our predicament.. Elijah stopped me and declared all will come clear tomorrow.

Day Five Hundred Eighty Five #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

Elijah and I wandered around the port today trying to converse with people. I noted a higher than usual distrust toward strangers.

In a couple of instances Elijah was able to penetrate their defenses and gain an understanding of their predicament.

After the time of the Glorious Appearing a great many people  on this island disappeared. (We know what happened. They don’t.) Those left moved into the vacant properties and businesses, and are plagued by the notion that the rightful owners could return at any time.

We tried to explain the truth, but that made them all the more fearful.

All this was forgotten upon our return to ship at the sight of a warship tied up next to us.

Day One Hundred Fifty Five #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

One more day should do it, and the early harvest will be in. There’ll be a short respite before the late crops will be ready. I see gratitude on every face.

Lyle spent the day in the vineyard with Grazie. At last, he believes, she is free of the guilt for her part in Kip’s predicament. Kip wanted her to know that he is right where he needs to be, and will do all he can to bring the Light to others.

I had accompanied them to the vineyard, but the sight of the desert beyond did not have the  same hold over me. I took my leave and sought solace in the walled courtyard.

There the visions came again.
