The Fairy Diary Day 60 #TFDbyRWOz2

Meribabell writes:

We had approached the man with reasonable precaution. Or so I thought. You never know with humans. They design and plot to gain control of us for their own reasons. Usually greed.

But something about this individual disarmed us the closer we came to him. His eyes had no hard edge to them and would easily charm any woodland denizen to his side.

My pendant flashed like never before and the man awakened and rose to his feet with a smile. He extended his arm in invitation to us and receiving our assent, whisked all of us to his lofty castle – we know not where.

Though as we walk its rampart this morning we are astonished at all we can see spread out before us. Everywhere we have been so far. Even so far as Nonin-gal-dith.

But so much more is gathered under the darkness. And that is why, so the High Fairy has written, that we have been led to the wizard supreme.

Jezer had guessed right. Indeed, there were checkpoints where hitherto there had been none. But they were easily spotted and the terrain was such that we had no trouble screening our passage around them.

Reuben took the extra precaution of sending scouts forward to locate any lone sentinels positioned as lookouts. Thankfully there were none.

All these extra exertions were very taxing and slowed our progress as half the time we were headed away from our goal. This frustration we took in stride and made us the more thankful for Jezer’s thoughtfulness in supplying each of us with a water skin.

As we went along Elijah and I discussed with Reuben the things he should know about our mutual future.

The campfires (we could now discern there was more than one) held to their position. At my order we kept a slow pace throughout the night.

Our plan was to arrive in daylight.  It wouldn’t do to have some strangers suddenly appear out of the darkness to stumble upon a more than likely armed host.

And Elijah insisted upon an additional precaution, he went in alone, while we kept out of sight.

After a brief separation Elijah returned to collect us, and to introduce us to our new friends.

They are indeed from that huge army. A whole platoon of deserters. Minus their leaders.

And to Elijah’s delight (and our surprise) new followers of Yeshua Hamashiach.

They trailed Elijah everywhere.

The Captain was conflicted. With the satellite network re-established the ship’s navigation will be so much easier and exact – no need to rely on the old methods. But it does mean we will be tracked wherever we turn – wearing “a mark” of another sort.

He turned to Elijah for his advice. Elijah thinks that at this stage their system will lack the sophistication  to be used against us. He is all for using it to speed us on our way and to perhaps increase our lead. Still, as a precaution he suggested that Tomas be assigned to monitor any changes as they manifest themselves. And then revisit the decision.

Later, Tomas brought word that we should make landfall tomorrow.
