Day Nine Hundred Forty One #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

The wind changed and was at our backs when we walked out of the wilderness into the village. The streets were deserted but we didn’t think it strange, given the time of day- early afternoon.

The only building not closed up was an inn on the main street. We entered and were greeted by the innkeeper. He remained friendly even after we said we would not be staying. When Elijah asked after the news of the day, a youngster sweeping the floor sidled away.

The innkeeper had just finished his account of police patrols combing the area for two strangers, when in burst five men who seized us.

As they placed us in their vehicle I saw the pesky villager.

Our transit today was a little more adventurous to my taste than usual. We had not travelled too far yesterday. Only far enough to emerge from the wilderness surrounding the hiding place.

Come mid morning we attained the road but soon became uncomfortable under the gaze of so many police patrols. We decided to veer off into less travelled tracks, but we found patrols operating there also.

Thankfully Elijah always sensed their presence before they came into view, and so far we have had  cover to shield us from notice. Especially from the occasional drone.

In those times in which we had to wait, Elijah would point out to me the landmarks and sights, familiar to him from long ago.

We were all overjoyed at the arrival of Mei with her group. She had mistaken the route through the similarity of some land features. And upon discovery of her error, took even longer retracing her steps due to the necessity of dodging police patrols.

Our celebration was tempered by the absence of Jezer and Tomas. As of this morning they still have not returned.

We debated sending someone to look for them, but decided to give them more time. No sense repeating the pattern of sending out searchers for the searchers that we have fallen into of late.

I did allow Quasimo to take the drone out for another look around. Something he was most willing and glad to do.
