Day Eight Hundred Twenty Three #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

When we saw the way ahead was entering a vast, flat wasteland with fewer places to hide our presence, Elijah and I asked our guide to put even more distance between us and the road – in hopes of maintaining our ‘invisibility.’

But first we crossed the road to be on the side of our guide’s choosing. We had to wait for an opening which was a bit of an annoyance to Quasimo.

Finally we were successful and he soon had us on what I can only describe as a goat track. It severely challenged our agility.

But had its advantages – it dropped us down to the open expanse sooner and allowed us to swing further from observation from the road.

Day Six Hundred Eighty Five #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

A wind storm blew in over night. It became so fierce we backtracked on the trail to a rock wall with a crevice-like opening on its face.

All four of us easily fit inside. We just stood there shivering and listening to the howl of the wind. Praying it would soon pass.

Tomas, crammed in the back of the crevice, felt the movement of air on his legs. Upon investigation he found another opening through which he could crawl to a larger chamber.

We gratefully joined him.

The smell of burnt wood was pervasive. Feeling around the Captain found a firebrand which he ignited with flint and steel.

We held up inside all day as the storm continued unabated.

Day Four Hundred Thirty Seven #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

At long last we found a way up off of the beach.

It was during one of our down times. Elijah sat facing the ocean while communing with the One. I found a rivulet that sank into the sand before reaching the sea and followed it back in hopes that it would lead to an opening in the cliff wall. Or perhaps even a valley that could carry us into the interior.

Instead its source was a pool at the foot of the rock wall, fed by a waterfall down its face.

And running parallel to it was a rickety stairway structure. I clambered to the top and there, sitting abandoned was a lovely villa.

I ran to fetch Elijah.
