Day Nine Hundred Ninety Eight #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

Mawuli led his group out at dawn. They moved along with alacrity evincing a high degree of motivation. Mawuli was quite surprised and asked me what Elijah had told them.

I advised him to ask them himself.

Elijah and I then set about arranging with the Purser the departures of the other two groups.

Tomas and Jezer stopped in on their way south, and Tomas hopped out to give us some news.

Reuben had informed them that a drone had been circulating over their area an hour or so yesterday.

Tomas added that thankfully it had occurred when they were absent with the tanker truck.

We sent them on their way and then met to discuss a night movement instead.

Day Nine Hundred Sixty Seven #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

The news brought by Jezer and his companions was grim, but not unexpected. Damascus has turned into an armed camp, the focus of hundreds of army units flooding in from the countryside roundabout. (Many, I am sure, we saw on our way here).

Jezer had more challenges than usual getting back here with his tiny flock, but he has his ways. And it certainly helped having the clearances that come with driving tanker trucks obtained through Elam’s influence.

Elijah questioned them closely about what they had seen and heard. I could tell he was sifting for any leads on the Purser. I took more time with them afterwards to explain what finding these people will mean to all of us.

Day Nine Hundred Fifty One #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

I must confess that upon first hearing the news, I misunderstood the import of what Reuben was telling us. I immediately thought that our fellow believers had been annihilated. Only upon his second explanation did I comprehend that they had been spirited away. They knew not where.

When we were able to report this to Elijah this morning, he broke out into the most satisfied expression. And asked if we knew who or what was responsible.

We all shook our heads.

Then a look of astonishment overspread his face, and he simply said, “Jezer!”

In my mind’s eye I saw our friend, but I also saw Elam.

But the question in everyone’s thoughts at that moment was what about us.

Day Nine Hundred Forty Nine #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

Our movements have become greatly restricted, even within this commodious dungeon. The number of guards has dropped, but whereas before there were none to interfere with our secretive activities, now even our mundane ones come under scrutiny.

We can barely speak a string of a dozen words before being silenced by a nearby guard.

Thankfully that changed when a certain guard reported for his shift. He was the one responsible for the note in our food from Raj G’s people.

In the guise of giving a reprimand he offered his services and we accepted.

First, he brought news of the well being of members of their group separated in other dungeons. Next he will bring them a word from us.

Day Nine Hundred Forty Seven #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

There was a note hidden along with our food last night. It was addressed to Elijah. They identified themselves as followers of Hamashiach, formerly led by Raj G. And they are excited at the prospect of meeting him.

This news set us rejoicing that we had been brought to the same prison.

(And the thought occurred to me that the guard must have known about the message. He would have to have been blind otherwise).

All morning we anticipated the arrival of the guards sent to move us. And our elation continued despite the rather rough handling we experienced when they came in and chained us together.

The chains remained in place as we were led into the grim dungeon.

Day Nine Hundred Forty #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

We had the wind in our faces all day. Few words passed between us while we were moving. The couple instances when talk was necessary we stopped and huddled on the ground.

The first time we discussed how long to keep going today. We decided to press on while it was light.

We halted the second time when the village at the edge of the wilderness came into view. I wanted to alter course to avoid it and the nosy villager. But Elijah was eager for news, even if it were more than likely hopelessly out of date.

He just had a sense that something important awaited us.

Thus we forged on in silence, retracing our path to the village.

Day Nine Hundred Thirty Two #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

It wasn’t a critter or a pesky villager outside our camp this morning. Both Elijah and I startled at the sound of Jezer’s voice wishing us a glorious morning. We rose and greeted our friend, who asked after us and we in turn after him and the others. In particular we were keen to know any news about his search.

He did have news on that score. He and Quasimo had at last located where Raj G’s people were being held. They still form a group and fill an entire prison on the other side of Jerusalem.

This put us in a dilemma. Should we drop our current pursuit in order to go to the rescue of the imprisoned group?

Day Nine Hundred Eighteen #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

Though not exactly conclusive, the news Jezer brought was about an individual from the distant south who had been haunting the old Hamashiachite quarter, seeking Elijah by name.

Elijah was immediately convinced this had to be the one we were looking for. But Jezer and I prevailed upon him to wait until today to go out to find him.

The quarter was very much changed. Many new peoples have been brought in to repopulate it and supply a work force for the rebuilding.

By a roundabout series of connections Jezer landed us in the individual’s own habitation.

But he was then out.

We took a chance and waited for his return.

We were rewarded later when in walked Raj G.

Day Nine Hundred Seventeen #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

Jezer was down to the last of his leads today. This he took care to explain before departing. He would like to move to another location as soon as possible to continue the search.

However, Elijah remained certain that the trail to Raj G’s group will originate here in Damascus.

Last night I had given Jezer a list of the last components I needed for the drone under construction. So not having anything to work on to keep me busy, my mind was filled up with other concerns. I felt more than ever that I needed to be out and about. But I stifled that feeling. And was obedient.

As it turns out, Elijah proved correct. Jezer returned with news.

Day Eight Hundred Ninety Three #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

We were transported to the hiding place. Much to the surprise of everyone. Except perhaps Elijah.

Now, he says, we wait a bit for the word to spread. He is certain that many of our people are in the vicinity of Jerusalem. And were just waiting for his arrival from our global journey.

However, he spoke out his concern that Mei and her group with Tomas, the Captain, and Raj P – and that led by Quasimo, should already be in contact with us.

When Jezer brought me some materials with which to build a drone – (for which I thanked him) I was struck by an idea, and brought him to Elijah.

It soon was agreed he would seek out news.
