The Fairy Diary Day 629 #TFDbyRWOz2

This day brought us a lot of confusion. I feel like we were being torn in multiple directions.

With the islands now in view I took a short hop over to one to look around. It is a sandy waste land, not a rock in sight. And the nearby islands look similar.  But the most disturbing discovery was that the waterways between them seem too shallow to support our ship.

Upon returning Dunfallon shared with me the urging from the voice in his ring that we turn towards the south for the promise of a navigable passage through the islands. We took this message to Merlin and before the pixie had finished repeating it, a note came in on my scroll from the Sprites. It was the warning we had feared. Frost Fairies had been sighted on the move through Aznastria – with, it is believed, the Faerie Kingdom as its target.

I wanted to return immediately. And I thought so would my fellow fairies, Noralei and Rumble.

Merlin, however, took the note from Emminie as a confirmation that we were closing in on our adversary. And he wanted to press on at all hazards, arguing that when we engage them the advance of the Frost Fairies will fall apart.

Another wrinkle emerged when we asked Captain Goff to change course to the south. He stated that he would do so but requested that we not ask him to go to the western land as he was not yet prepared to immigrate with those elves that have gone on before.

The wizard then rather cryptically said that we have yet another direction to consider.

We all told Dunfallon what to look for and do when he flew on Conjil today. I described the tower-like rock we want to find. Captain Goff instructed him to look for the best passage through the islands. And Gibley and Noralei had some advice on how to get back to the ship.

They were gone longer than I had been yesterday, and we were beginning to worry, when they appeared, flying out of the setting sun towards us.

Once the pixie had seen to the care of the dragon, he met with Merlin and me. He and Conjil had covered a wide swath of ocean – directed by the voice from the ring. There were a couple of islands that will require a closer look as his first pass over them was inconclusive. And neither one was near the best passage through. Afterwards he met with Rumble to chart this uncharted area. Then, we can plan the best course with Captain Goff.

I shared some nectar with Dunfallon afterwards and he coached me on what to watch out for when I go out tomorrow.

Meribabell writes:

I thought that Conjil was going to be the next victim of seasickness. She looked a little unsteady to me and had no appetite- even for some fresh fire plants. But Noralei thought she only needed to spread her wings. And after she got permission from the Captain, she took her up. (Gibley was still getting over his malady, so he gladly gave place to Noralei).

Upon their return Conjil looked fine and folded herself back into her space on the deck. Noralei then met with Merlin and me to tell us that from above they could make out a string of islands about three days away, and an even larger landfall about triple that distance away.

This was welcome news. And was an indication of a better use of the dragon’s abilities rather than towing the ship. It should prove helpful in locating our former queen as with the seers stone we only have a general direction.

I want to go up on her tomorrow to see if I can recognize anything I have seen via the seers stone. Merlin has reservations about getting too close and will allow it only if I exercise extreme caution.

Day Five Hundred Ninety Seven #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

Despite our entreaties to the Captain and Tomas to stay out of the city, they left the safety of this place for that very destination. The Captain in particular was miffed that we had done the very thing we were denying them.

In the end Elijah extracted a promise from them to return before sundown.

While they were gone we had a visit from a neighbor. He, like Mr. Kagi and his friend, is an exile from the islands. He is very bitter about his loss, and felt comfortable in our presence to vilify Stan the one who had taken everything from him.

Our neighbor departed with the setting sun. And our concern grew at the absence of our friends.

Day Five Hundred Ninety Five #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

A day for goodbyes.

Most of the crew will be staying with the ship, if only to return to their homes whose ports were announced in the future itinerary. Others with no attachments want to spend their money and look about before shipping out again. Elijah met with them all after the transport service official’s time with them. It was a time to encourage and wish one another God speed.

We debarked with the Captain and Tomas in the heat of the afternoon. Mr. Kagi accompanied us to the gangplank in his first duty as captain. Before parting he gave us the name of a fellow exile from the islands.

Through his compatriot we found this place in the country.

Day Five Hundred Eighty Three #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

Another surprise has surfaced after the Captain broached the topic of the global transport service. The port authority here has not even heard of it, and were at a loss how to advise him what he should do next. They promised to look into the problem.

So we may be here well after the unloading is finished.

The Captain handed the payments to Tomas for research.

He was astonished to discover that the monies were due Mr. Kagi.

Tomas informed the Captain, who turned the funds over to our passenger with an explanation. Mr. Kagi was bowled over. And greatly amused. For he was sure it all would have been confiscated by Stan in his take over of the islands.

Day Five Hundred Fifty Nine #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

I cannot help thinking about our recent guests and their enchantment with those green clad islands, as we pass by visions of surpassing beauty found only in the islands of these climes. They would have asked to move in for a closer look, maybe even have begged to land.

I know I have had such longings. But I realize that we have a schedule to keep and more pressing matters to see to.

Elijah remained in the special cabin all day. I alternated between the bridge and the Purser’s office, lending a hand to Tomas or P as the need arose.

Again a whole day has passed and no ship sightings. It would be disconcerting if we didn’t know why.

Day Five Hundred Fifty Eight #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

The Captain informs us that we have left one large ocean behind and are now entering the largest one on the globe.

All I see is a lot of islands, but he assures me that though there are many in this vicinity, a great vastness awaits beyond.

I think he can’t wait to surround us in the safety of that vastness.

Elijah has been busy today giving assurances himself. The Raj twin P came to him earlier to ask why Elijah had recommended him for the position on the other ship. I thought he was feeling slighted, but that was not the case. He was having doubts and wondering if he had missed his path.

Elijah put him at ease.
