When we saw the way ahead was entering a vast, flat wasteland with fewer places to hide our presence, Elijah and I asked our guide to put even more distance between us and the road – in hopes of maintaining our ‘invisibility.’

But first we crossed the road to be on the side of our guide’s choosing. We had to wait for an opening which was a bit of an annoyance to Quasimo.

Finally we were successful and he soon had us on what I can only describe as a goat track. It severely challenged our agility.

But had its advantages – it dropped us down to the open expanse sooner and allowed us to swing further from observation from the road.

Day Eight Hundred Nineteen #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

Our guide has switched roles today, looking to Elijah and myself as guides into the Truth. He hung upon every lesson as Elijah taught from the surroundings. The plants heavy with grain, the water nourishing their roots, and the very light of the sun’s rays helping us to see these things.

Time seemed to stand still as we kept on our way. Before we knew it we were beyond the fields and into unreclaimed desert. The dryness added discomfort to the heat.

We began a swing to the north following the contour of a bowl-like depression, the end of which meant a steep climb up to a new elevation and a view of the megapolis- minus its tallest building.

No one pursued us. Quasimo was sure they halted at the property limit and will await their master’s return to report the matter.

By the new day we were beyond the palaces, only the hovels of field hands dotted the landscape of green growth.

Knowing we were nearing the river, our guide paused. We needed to decide between two bridges. For one we would have to take the next path north. If we were to opt for the other, we would continue on to the river on our current path, then turn south for a good distance.

Both Elijah and I opted for straight ahead. And when we reached the river we each took a hand and walked him across.

Day Eighty Six #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

We arrived at one of the most beautiful spots today. Stan led us off the main path, following a mountain stream to a secluded dell, marked off from the surrounding forest by towering canyon walls.

At the last, the stream fed into a vast lake reflecting the bluest sky and the enclosing cliffs.

He pointed out a clearing on a bank above the lower end of the lake as the best place to set up our camp.

Hiking the perimeter to that clearing was an up and down affair, and at times our goal vanished from sight.

At long last we attained it, our guide warning us off of several dead ends.

Though it was yet early, we set camp.
