Day Four Hundred Ninety Seven #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

Elijah decided to change inns, to go on into another section of the metropolis. Our canvass of the first area had come up empty. Not even a hint of any followers of Hamashiach anywhere.

We moved to an inn situated near the banks of a river that flows through this end of the metropolis. There are many fish shops all along its course that Elijah deems worthy prospects.

So far it has been easy to avoid encounters with government officials, both of the local kind and of the global.

Elijah has also made another decision. No longer shall we part ways, even if such a course would be helpful. He feels it important that the two witnesses be always together.

Day Three Hundred Forty Seven #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

A long day. This despite the choice to take a boat across the harbor to the grain ship. The Captain thought it quicker.  Elijah was not happy because he desired to be on land.

The boat master seemed starved for business, at every opportunity he was touting this or that tourist site off the route determined by the Captain. Elijah and I paid close attention for future reference.

When we arrived at the ship that the Captain considers his by right of salvage, a vast throng was milling about awaiting handouts of grain or locusts, all rationed under the supervision of government officials.

The Captain was denied access and ordered away. But he promised to seek restitution and their punishment.

Day Two Hundred Eighty Six #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

Twenty three days remain. We got that point across readily enough. For emphasis, Elijah stepped towards the government officials, and they cowered back.

In response the leader told us to leave, as we had delivered our message, and as to our ultimatum, they refused to comply. He turned and pointed to the guards and said, “These guards are not here to protect us, but to hold back the crowd from assaulting you.”

I don’t think Elam would have found any likely candidates today; all in sight bore the mark and were present for the express purpose of supporting the officials.

I have a sense that the speaker is not the true leader, but rather the glowering woman, lurking behind him.
