Merlin and I had a few things to sort out before we departed. The wizard invited Navril to accompany us. Having completed his mission of contacting us, he planned to return to Laguayil – but Merlin reasoned with the elf that since he would not be expected back so soon anyway, why not continue on to the fairy capital for my investiture.

This being agreeable to our friend, we next tackled how to transport the wagon and the small unit from Dunfallon’s army back to the repository.

Merlin said there would be little problem since he could now employ a rainbow bridge – but what was absolutely necessary was a beast of burden to pull the wagon. His comment was overheard by Gabhe who immediately volunteered, stating that he was certain he could do it.

I was incredulous that such a small mountain goat would be strong enough, but the wizard smiled and said that he was certain too. Then he winked at me and whispered, “I can make it so.”

And when Herblas asked to accompany us also, I was confident to invite him along.

Thus, when we had it all together we bid Gilgorgon goodbye. We gave Gabhe his head and he soon mounted the rainbow bridge and before we knew it we touched down at the fairy capital.

We could not but feel helpless. And dispirited. Out of the silence between us, we eventually got around to weighing what next we should do.

There was no agreement at first. Rumble wanted to leave immediately. Before anything else he argued that we must contact Merlin. I could agree that we needed Merlin but argued other things needed to happen first.

But my friend was really sensing the need for action now. And wanted to return to Nonin-gal-dith and check into the High Fairy’s residence for his means of communication with the wizard.

I was not not feeling the same urgency. In fact, my pendants were not spurring me on to do anything. I proposed that our first need was to link up with Dunfallon and Navril. And the best way to do that was to stay put and wait for them to come to us.

Rumble countered with the thought – what if they had been here already? I answered that I could visualize where that could have happened – and I was certain that Dunfallon would have indeed set off again – but not without leaving word about their intentions.

Besides I added we needed to come together and no longer be splintered.

My friend then agreed to wait one more day for our missing pixie and elf. So we took refuge up in the most secure place in the repository.

And a good thing we did.

Noralei arose before the sun, and we came early also to see her off. She and Gibley already had everything in place for their trip to the repository. Not knowing how long she would be called upon to settle the new dragons in there, she again turned over control of her shop to her sister. And l promised to follow after them once Merlin returned from his time with the trolls.

Dunfallon, however, announced that he and Navril were also going to make the trip to the repository – on foot. (The pixie had often bragged to the elf about all the sights they had missed when Merlin had rushed us to Nonin-gal-dith from the capital). So, they departed just after we made our goodbyes to Noralei and Gibley.

Come the afternoon I experienced quite a letdown as all at once all the excitement was gone. I called on Rumble and together we recruited Tinadell to join us in a bowl of refreshment and we talked long into the evening.

By the time we left we were a bit merry.
