The Fairy Diary Day 303 #TFDbyRWOz2

Meribabell writes:

After much discussion we came to a consensus that this location would be ideal for the defense against the dark elves. To that end I got out the scroll and penned a note to the High Fairy and asked him to get this word to the goblin king through the Dromadil pixies.

Before we continued on via the left fork, Dunfallon marked the area with a few choice goblin signs, to aid them in setting up their defenses. And Rumble showed me a map he had drawn up detailing this underground passage so far. And marvel of marvels he can overlay it on the map given to us by Merlin.

One look at the revealed expanse from where we are to the canyonlands was disheartening – until Noralei reminded me that we just might encounter the dark elves long before then.

I hurriedly appended a note to the High Fairy asking that goblin forces be moved into place as soon as possible.

Day One Thousand One Hundred Forty Five #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

Reuben was ebullient to be in touch with Tomas after his epic search for him. The feeling was mutual since they had much in common to discuss as they went along.

It was from their discussion that we learned about a side effect to my destruction of Stan’s idol.

The alliance between the armies of the East and North had been forged while the Supreme Commander was still alive. When the government forces left their fortifications to mount an attack on them, the leader of the Northern army suspected he had been betrayed and slew the Supreme Commander. When the government forces retreated for no apparent reason, the triumphant leader concluded it was from his action.

But we know differently.

Quasimo has come out of his crisis of confidence, partly helped by his skill in getting us to the third and last of the relay points, but I believe mostly due to the penetrating insight supplied by Elijah through their discussion.  Elijah was able to put him at peace, both for the present, and with his past. And most glorious of all, for the future.

Our passage today was for the most part uneventful. Reuben did sight a drone, but there was enough time to get everyone into cover. Quasimo said to expect more such sightings from here on out. Especially in the vicinity of the busy road that runs to Damascus from Jerusalem.

That will be the greatest challenge.

Day Nine Hundred Seventy Five #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

We continued our journey through the desert while Tomas inspected the villages along the road. We agreed to reconvene in the desert to the east of the last village two days hence.

Elijah thought that the day after should land us at the crossroads where we first met Jezer. At that point we could decide whether to  return on the side to the west of the road, or retrace our steps to Babylon.

Our discussion out of the way, we trudged on in silence. But now a new thought was stewing in my mind.

Finally, I asked Elijah why we just did not wing to Babylon on the Spirit to check my hunch.

He replied that he had already asked.

Day Nine Hundred Thirty Seven #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

Having covered the happenings in our lives (and the hand of the Spirit in those events) throughout the remainder of the day yesterday, we began the discussion of our mutual futures after breakfast.

Sy holds the decided opinion that all the Hamashiachites should come here to this stronghold in the wilderness. And he listed all the benefits, chief of which is their access through Elam to water from under the very noses of our adversaries.

Elijah listened, offering no interruption.

When Sy closed his case with a nod to Elijah for having touted this location to him in the first place, Elijah agreed to allow him to remain, but only if he learned how to escape to the hiding place.

Day Eight Hundred Fifty Seven #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

We planned to let a whole day pass before setting off on the road to Damascus. Neither of us wanted to overtake Jezer and fall into his company.

We had just collected ourselves together when an army truck rolled up to the well and accosted us. They couldn’t understand us and we couldn’t understand them.

The man in charge searched us, then dismissed us in disgust. They remounted and sped away north.

The way ahead looked much the same as our route from the south, more rock cliffs channeling our path.

I fell into a discussion with Elijah about our former guest.  I supposed that the soldiers were in pursuit of him.

Elijah nodded and said, “His mark was false.”

We finally relented, and allowed Lung to go back down the trail, accompanied by Tomas. They reported that the trail was washed out by the force of the water from the glacier.  And that a huge chunk of the glacier had cascaded down to a lower elevation.

Still, Lung desires to get back to his unit with this intelligence. And to see if any of the runoff has made its way down to the lake.

Elijah advised him to continue on with us until another way down can be found.

At the same time, Mei let it be known that she does not want to return.

This caught Lung completely by surprise.

We put further discussion aside and continued on.

Day Seven Hundred Eleven #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

Tomas has come down to earth from his emotional high of yesterday. We were up late listening to all that has happened to him since we’ve been apart.

But it all boils down to the revelation for which he has been prepared by those very events, the most recent of which we were all too familiar with.

On the strength of these occurrences Tomas has convinced the Supreme Commander to release us to follow where the Spirit wills.

And so it came to pass that we were again on our own, free to do our oversight of the army, or not.

And that very point was the focus of the discussion between Elijah and Tomas as we renewed our trek.

Day Six Hundred Eighty Two #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

We arrived in an area at a lower elevation – and less cold. The advance units of the army had disappeared further down the pass and the main body had marched into view.

They moved more swiftly than before. At the double quick.

At first I wondered how long they could maintain that pace, but then I was struck by perhaps a more important question – why.

Tomas chimed in with the thought that they may have discovered evidence of their enemy’s presence back in that defile.

Our discussion on this topic was interrupted by the Captain who brought the news that we were not alone on the trail.  He had found tracks on our path that merged onto it from above.

Day Six Hundred Seventy Six #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

Each one of us has stated his idea as to the best course of action going forward. And each idea has been vetted by the others in a full discussion. Mine has met with the most approval.

It’s based on a simple enough proposition. I pointed to the north and the ample presence of snow and ice on the mountain ranges in that direction and deduced that that offered the best possibility for water along the way..

But that being said we are all agreed to the need for waiting upon the Spirit’s leading and not our own understanding.

Elijah is concerned for what the army will do in this situation. He wants them where they need to be also.
