The Fairy Diary Day 482 #TFDbyRWOz2

Meribabell writes:

I am afraid a squabble broke out amongst us as to who should accompany Merlin on his mission to see the dwarves. Dunfallon was the most vocal against my notion that he should stay and complete the training for Cluyjil and the fairies posted here. Obviously he thought otherwise.

I wanted to enlist Rumble back at Merlin’s castle and Noralei from here, and thus make it an all fairy affair.

It became a mute point when Merlin called me in to announce he would only be taking Gibley, Dunfallon and myself. And that I need to have the pixie ready to depart to his castle to collect Gibley in the morning. And from there we will go on to Gilgorgon’s mountain.

I passed the afternoon seeing to the wizard’s wishes. Dunfallon was elated. I dealt with Noralei and her disappointment at not being included. I told her that for the future trip to the other side I would insist that she head up that mission. So she could at long last complete what she had tried before.

And I wondered how my friend Rumble was going to react about being left behind too.

Day One Thousand Sixty Nine #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

Our movements we feel were well beyond the army’s patrols. And the lack of drones too, was a comfort.  All the more so as we came down from the hills and onto the plain.

Sy directed us to a well by midday, but it proved a disappointment. He said the water was simply too deep to reach.

Thankfully our need is far from pressing. There was a point after Sy had spoken when I looked to Elijah, but he shook his head, so I knew that it was not quite the time.

Elam was a great help. For he had driven his tanker truck through this area many times, and knew the best places to pass over those routes undetected.

Day Five Hundred #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

The one lead we had from the river district was a dead end. We have only a third of the metropolis left to check.  It seems more likely than not that no followers of Hamashiach remain to be found.

It is a severe disappointment to Elijah. Under his crusty exterior he is actually very tender.

We have moved again today. Our exit from the metropolis is only a day or two away. The slums will be the focus of our search next. Rather than stay in one place we plan to move about daily and stay wherever we land for the night.

I long to be back on the ship and among our friends. I wonder how they are faring.

Day Four Hundred Ninety Eight #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

We have moved again. The area of the river has proven a disappointment. No shop under the sign of the fish has yielded any followers of Hamashiach, though we have one lead that has taken us further into the metropolis.

It took longer to find a place to stay, as this new area is central and quite populous. So many people chase the same vacancies. However, we were able to ask questions as we went about that business.

The bigger crowds were thronging the temple-like structures similar to the one we were in five days ago. I learned they have all been recently converted and are now places to honor the supreme leader.

With that knowledge we avoid them.

Day Four Hundred Twenty Six #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

We have the mountain behind us and it is well after dark. We pushed on through to be out of the pass and well below the tree line before settling in. The exertion of walking kept us warm through the snow and ice.

The view before me now has captivated my attention. I’ve completely forgotten the sights and sounds of the day that got us to this point. The port city stretches in both directions along the coast. So many tall buildings and all of them intact. The ravages of the great destruction are strikingly absent.

However there is one disappointment- nothing is visible in the harbor. I mean to say, we cannot even see the harbor much less any ships.

Day Three Hundred Six #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

Storm clouds blew in this afternoon. And appear to go on forever, encircling and closing in on the city. It seems too early as there yet remains three days to run.

Elijah and I discussed plans to get through the cordon and into our ship. We had just settled on a stratagem, when the said ship cast off from the dock and pulled away out into the roads.

Obviously Stan has identified it as ours and ordered her off. At the same time he has reinforced the troops on the perimeter around us.

I admitted disappointment, but Elijah remained non-plussed.

At that moment the storm broke loose. Lightning and hail fell from the turbulent skies.

They both spared us.
