The Fairy Diary Day 7

Meribabell writes:

I arrived early in the council chambers and placed my note of apology at the Rumbletwist’s place in the circle. He was not yet there. The High Fairy, though, was. And he nodded his approval from across the chamber.

Soon after we were all gathered together, except Rumble.

The High Fairy motioned to begin the meeting and was interrupted by the captain of the guard.

In the excitement that followed I was thoroughly confused. It seems everyone knew what was happening except me.

As our leader later explained it, the captain of the guard had been sent to arrest Rumble, only to discover that he had fled.

And I am charged with his pursuit.

The Fairy Diary Day 2

Meribabell writes:

One day and I am already on report. If I want back in their presence I have to write an apology to that insufferable Rumbletwist.

Well, I do not know if it is worth it.

Besides I believe it is totally unfair. Does the council leader have the right to require it from me?

I just made one little suggestion. Surely an improvement that everyone in our village would approve.

How could I know that saying what everyone was thinking could insult the high and mighty Rumble?

I think I’ll stay away tomorrow. Maybe I’ll go on a trip.

Day One Thousand Nine #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

Well, we did not depart with the third group yesterday, nor with the fourth or fifth today. Elijah and I agreed to wait for an answer to our disagreement before taking any further action.

We have not discussed it with any of the others, preferring to keep our own council. That being said, we did leave an opening for any of our friends to speak into the situation unprompted by us and hopefully free of any other influence except that of the Spirit.

We saw Malawi off with his group. His mother Mary, bravely held back her tears until they were out of sight.

About that time Mei returned from the ruined city with an urgent request for our presence.

Day Nine Hundred Ninety Six #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

An unforeseen consequence to our staying here has surfaced. In our council last night we had decided to schedule our departure for the day after tomorrow. When this plan was announced this morning there was audible grumbling in certain quarters.

I took it upon myself to investigate and tracked down a few of the discontents. Each one shared the same reasoning, a reluctance to give up their present comfort for an unknown future.

I remonstrated with them to little effect. So I turned the whole matter over to the Purser and Elijah.

By day’s end my friends had them convinced of the folly of their thirst for comfort. No doubt Elijah’s vision of future troubles within these confines clinched it

Day Nine Hundred Three #DairyoftheEndoftheWorld

Our council closed last night with a series of decisions. Quasimo was dispatched back to the hiding place overnight. We all knew that Jezer would be beside himself waiting for news about us.

And we hope Quasimo will arrive before Jezer does something rash. We want Quasimo to take over there and free up Jezer to come help us.

We bid Godspeed this morning to Meesa who will lead Mei and her group to our base.

The rest of us will wait for Jezer to arrive before Elijah and I depart with the combined groups of Tomas and the Captain. That way we can vouch for and introduce Raj P to Jezer.

We pray that it will all come together.

Day Four Hundred Nineteen #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

As the rear guard we were the last to go into bivouac last night. Despite the late hour I went in search of Elijah.

I arrived just as the council was closing their meeting. They had been evaluating their first day on the march. Overall it was positive. And our rear guard was commended for our diligence.

Elijah and I drew apart by ourselves. He wants me to  choose someone else to take my place on the rear guard and rejoin him in the lead.

So I have kept a close eye today to that end. I would like to appoint Mawuli, but fear his youth would be a stumbling block. I asked Mawuli and he recommended the perfect candidate.

Day Four Hundred Seventeen #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

The council at Elijah’s urging has made the decision to depart the plain. I had seen this coming and was glad for my expedition of the day before. I made a recommendation that we set out along the stream eastwards for as long as feasible.

After we dispersed out of the meeting we scattered to set the command in motion. Elijah and I returned to the Purser’s tent and assisted his family in their preparations for the move.

The Purser joined us after he had gotten the word out to his surrounding neighbors. He then asked me to remain with Mary and the children while he and Elijah traversed to the west side of the camp to lead the advance.
