Day Six Hundred Forty Three #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

We all saw them last night. Lights in the sky over the high mountains.

I was making my way out to the meditation cave when I spotted them. I ran to tell the Captain, but he had already noticed them and stood there gaping.

Before we could go out to notify Elijah, he was by our side.

Our immediate concern was for Tomas. The Captain wanted to set out and retrace our steps.

Elijah dismissed his wishes out of hand and refused to let him depart. We did reach a compromise instead. We agreed to wait another day in our present position.

We won’t decide until then our course of action, whether or not to allow the Captain to return.

Day Four Hundred Fifty Six #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

Hurry up and wait. The tune called by our hosts. At one time, all for getting rid of us at the earliest opportunity, only to turn around and hold us here while they check on rumors of stowaways.

I don’t believe it possible. The Captain and Tomas have been fastidious in their efforts to keep anything from being surreptitiously placed aboard. Especially as Elijah warned them that an attempt would be made to compromise us.

Late in the day they gave up and allowed us permission to depart, hoping that we would put it off till tomorrow.

The Captain decided to leave immediately rather than be forced to endure the like later.

The pilot took us out into the night.

Day One Hundred Fifty One #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

Grazie had been under surveillance. Probably a drone that kept well out of view.

Moglen alleges that Kip is responsible for alienating the affections of his daughter, Terresta. He will oppose Kip’s transfer to the east end until he has Terresta back.

Grazie is beside herself. She feels keenly being the source of conflict – saddened for Kip, and fearful for herself. She repudiates the name Terresta and does not want to go back.

Lyle has gone into the second district to meet with Moglen, if he can. And to possibly work out a compromise.

I gave Grazie into the care of the widow. She will do her best to keep her occupied.

I passed the day in my walled courtyard.
