Day One Thousand One Hundred Fifty #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

Three of Elijah’s six disciples have left us. They continued on after we halted at daylight. They felt keenly the need to do so. Elijah did not stop, nor even try to dissuade them. Instead he gave each his blessing.

I watched them as they disappeared from sight, and silently prayed for their safe passage.

As of the time we set out this evening, agreement has still eluded us. But thankfully contention has not raised its ugly head.

And a good thing for it was a challenge dodging the patrolling drones even with seven pairs of eyes on the alert.

After a couple of close encounters I could not but help think of our departed comrades and how they fared.

Quasimo has come out of his crisis of confidence, partly helped by his skill in getting us to the third and last of the relay points, but I believe mostly due to the penetrating insight supplied by Elijah through their discussion.  Elijah was able to put him at peace, both for the present, and with his past. And most glorious of all, for the future.

Our passage today was for the most part uneventful. Reuben did sight a drone, but there was enough time to get everyone into cover. Quasimo said to expect more such sightings from here on out. Especially in the vicinity of the busy road that runs to Damascus from Jerusalem.

That will be the greatest challenge.

Day Five Hundred Thirty Eight #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

By Elijah’s estimation we have passed the three quarters mark on our way around the world. I have noticed that judging by these last two encounters, the region we are now entering is in every way rebellious. And are targets of the global authority to add them to their sphere of influence.

To my mind the challenge is not only to get out ahead of Stan and his minions, but also to avoid being used by them in their plans for subjugation.

Elijah, however, on the second point sees this region as too far gone to be concerned about their independence. He feels they are enslaved already and are just coming to their true master.

The Captain just wants to go.

Contact.

What I had hoped would not come to pass this early, did.

Earlier than expected, much earlier than I wanted.

We had set our sights on the bridge with the high towers and directed our steps accordingly. Elijah sheltered underneath its span when he first came to this city, and before he moved to the bridge under which I discovered him. He thinks it a good starting point this time too.

We had just turned onto the boulevard that crosses this bridge when we were hailed by the leader of a patrol.

Elijah led us boldly forward to answer their challenge. We were immediately surrounded and told to come with them.

Elijah said no.

Fire fell. They were consumed.
