The Fairy Diary Day 605 #TFDbyRWOz2

Meribabell writes:

Our celebration with the Dromadil pixies last evening was very pleasurable. But it was also full of oddities. And none more so than when the Dromadil king suddenly changed the topic and asked after the Will’o’the Wisp. I filled him in on Willie’s current whereabouts and Dunfallon described his daily routines in his swamp. Then, that was it, the king moved on to a fresh topic.

I did not learn of a connection until later. Merlin had left a message on the scroll for me. He requested that we hear out a request from the Dromadil king. (The wizard had made a promise to him in return for receiving the Sprites into his kingdom).

It was a favor being asked of fairies – so, while Dunfallon and Gibley remained behind, Rumble, Noralei, and I went in for a special audience with the king. I feel that he had a general misunderstanding as to who had the closer relationship with Willie – for he asked us if we could persuade Willie to leave his bog and come here to help the Dromadil pixies with an ongoing problem. The king was reticent about details and would only say that Merlin was aware and would approve.

None of us knew what to say in reply. Finally I just told the king that we needed to confer with one another before making a decision. He said he understood and dismissed us.

I wrote out a note to Merlin and we gathered out where Conjil is stabled to talk through the request.

Meribabell writes:

Merlin has been quite thorough in his assessment of our situation. He commended us for our industry in seeking out the displaced farmers. So Rumble and I were feeling supreme satisfaction with his approval. That is until he brought up the High Fairy. The minute the wizard asked if we had heard anything from his excellency I realized that I had not so much as written a single word to him. And had not thought to ask for his direction.

Nor had I even checked for any message from him.

I felt horrible. And even more so after I looked on the scroll and there saw the same question from him – written over and over again. “Where are you?”

I wrote back immediately. A long message detailing all our movements.

By this morning I still had no answer. We left for the troll village down in the valley. For after all it is our commitment. Our promise to keep. At least we do have Merlin’s approval, and Geog and Grimace started the celebration the minute we arrived.

Mei writes:

Today was beyond dark. To me. The sunny blue skies open to everyone else were closed behind the shutters of my denial.

I can still hear the sounds of celebration around the city – voices raised in laughter and exultation. Happy throngs weaved about the streets calling to their fellows, congratulating one another for their triumph over their foes.

Then they began to lavish gifts on one another, declaring their independence from any and all restrictions.

I kept well away from them all.

I would almost despair if I did not have faith in the promises. There was a time before when these feelings would have crushed the very life from me.

I tell myself it will all be over soon.

Day One Thousand Two Hundred Thirty Six #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

Mei and Mawuli brought us in to the hiding place with a minimum of difficulty. There was no quelling the celebration that greeted our safe return. Only the news about Tomas and the Captain dampened the spirits of some, those that knew and loved them.

At the first opportunity Reuben and Sy sought an audience to relay important intelligence. Both had just returned from Jerusalem. Stan is indeed there, gloating over his ‘complete victory.’ A conclusion he claims since he is the ‘last leader standing.’ And though triumphant the general feeling among his followers is an abiding hatred towards Elijah and his followers.

Because they realized we would soon be going there, they were begging the honor to accompany us.

The normal hum of activity within the hiding place returned. Then a celebration of some sort down in the quarters inhabited by Jordan’s people added to the din. They invited their near neighbors to join in and the merriment soon spread to all the other groups.

Elijah and I were invited too. But Elijah was missing, so I made an excuse and went searching for him.

This time I found him in the first place I looked – the set apart place, quietly interceding. I entered into that time with him most gladly.

Some time after we were joined by Mei and the Captain, then Tomas and Reuben.

When we emerged there was a stillness throughout and the sounds of intercession.

Day Nine Hundred Ten #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

We were all overjoyed at the arrival of Mei with her group. She had mistaken the route through the similarity of some land features. And upon discovery of her error, took even longer retracing her steps due to the necessity of dodging police patrols.

Our celebration was tempered by the absence of Jezer and Tomas. As of this morning they still have not returned.

We debated sending someone to look for them, but decided to give them more time. No sense repeating the pattern of sending out searchers for the searchers that we have fallen into of late.

I did allow Quasimo to take the drone out for another look around. Something he was most willing and glad to do.
