The Fairy Diary Day 84 #TFDbyRWOz2

Meribabell writes:

We were stuck for quite some time waiting under cover while a caravan of humans passed by on a road. They were traveling with all their possessions in wagons and carts and some with just packs on their backs. Looking at the great number of them caused me to wonder what had them on the move.

We crossed the road during a long break in their column and once on the other side I had Rumble wait with the guards while Dunfallon and I shadowed the next group of humans.

That is how I satisfied my curiosity. We learned that the poor creatures have been run off of their lands by an enemy that may be the same as ours.

If so, that may mean the darkness has changed fronts.

Day Six Hundred #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

The normal rhythms of life returned this morning. Nothing stirred yesterday as the darkness never lifted, but settled seamlessly into the night.

We were watchful all day. All the traffic, such as it was, flowed cityward. We saw the same people and carts plod back at end of day.

We were about to breathe a collective sigh of relief when a small body of troops strode past our house. They continued down the road, but left a pair of guards at the nearby crossroads.

I went out to talk with the guards, but our neighbor reached them first. They rebuffed his curiosity, slamming him to the ground.

I helped our neighbor to his feet and supported him to his home.

Day Five Hundred Ninety Eight #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

We arose early and went in search of our friends. Only a few farmers in carts heading to market shared the roads with us.

We said little on the way in.

When we came to a temple we had passed by yesterday Elijah insisted upon entering. It bore all the signs of rededication to the cult of Stan. An acolyte motioned us forward but we skirted around the morning crowd and made our exit.

With the citizens across the city tied up in similar meetings we quickly got through to the civic center. There the Captain and Tomas were penned in a cage. Their surrounding captors fainted away at Elijah’s approach.

We released them and together returned to the country.
