Day One Thousand One Hundred Forty Two #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

Once his fright was past, Reuben grew quiet. And thoughtful.

By this morning he was the old Reuben. Until he went out to check again. He rushed back in to exclaim that Moglen was still out there. Not in the same spot as before. But there. Watching and waiting as before.

It took both Elijah and me to settle him down. We were not dealing with fear this time, the more he thought about the situation the more enraged he became.

He wanted to go out and eliminate Moglen.

Elijah made the breakthrough by explaining we were not dealing with what can be seen but rather with what we can’t.

And most importantly- our rage can never bring God’s justice.

Day One Thousand One Hundred Seventeen #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

A fine powder coated everything out of doors in the city. No one could identify it. So the unease of yesterday returned.

Elijah and I were kept quartered close to the Supreme Commander’s command center. Tomas stopped in and out throughout the day and gave us updates. He had been tasked to analyze the powder. Was it by design from the enemy?

He had a breakthrough come afternoon. The material in combination with another compound is highly combustible when water is present.

It made little sense until someone else realized the attack may be directed at the river coming into the city or the tanks fed by the desalination plants.

Thus the army must decide whether to evacuate or not.

Day Nine Hundred Twenty Four #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

Tomas and the Captain returned today. Their foray had yielded slim results. But such as those were, they did raise the hope of an eventual breakthrough.

They excitedly talked about the possibilities. According to them the most promising ground for discovery lay towards the north and west of Jericho, long ago known as the Galilee.

They wanted to return there as soon as possible. But before that they asked to confer with Elijah and myself.

I was available, but Elijah was not. In order to have a face to face with him, they’d have to wait for him to return from intercession.

I decided to release them to the work on my own recognizance, when Elijah emerged and halted everything.
