The Fairy Diary Day 231 #TFDbyRWOz2

Meribabell writes:

Our sadness lifted the instant Dunfallon landed with his eagle, accompanied by an ambassador from the Dromadil pixies. They were rushed immediately into the Laguayil council chamber where Nililitil received them with much pomp and ceremony.

While the ambassador negotiated with the Laguayilian leader, Dunfallon filled us in about his latest adventures.

He looked hard and long for these pixies, and at last uncovered them in burrows beside a lake that sits across from the former land of the dark elves. He was received as a great curiosity at first but when he explained that he was there on the behalf of the elves of light he was almost expelled bodily.

On a whim our pixie scavenged the area and discovered the presence of the infamous black plants.

After disposing them, even Dunfallon, as well as the Dromadilians were horrified to see the black crystalline structure across the lake from their burrow.

From that moment it was easy to convince these other pixies the need to reach out to their former allies.

And as if that wasn’t enough to rejoice about – before their ambassador had been selected to return with him – who should show up in the burrow of the Dromadilians but our missing wizard.

And with a twinkle in his eye, our pixie informed us that Merlin will soon be with us here in Laguayil – once he has helped stave off an imminent attack.

Meribabell writes:

Rumble directed things while I was unconscious. He had Noralei put in place her barrier to secure things while Navril saw to the resupply of arrows, as all eyes scanned the horizon towards the black crystalline structure.

Actually I was not inwardly unconscious nor was I here in Laguayil as I explained today – but rather caught up in a dreamlike trance, in which I journeyed to the coast, met a seafaring elf who agreed to sail us up to the land of the dark elves. And strange to say as I saw the ship I was on, it saw me.

Upon coming to, then, a great fuss was made over me by my friends. As I went over the details of my vision, Rumble jumped to the conclusion that we were to leave immediately. I called him back and declared that now was not the time. For in the vision – not only were he and Noralei with me but also Dunfallon.

My companions understood the implication.

Meribabell writes:

The call has gone out for archers. Nililitil thinks enough bowmen can be collected from the countryside and the woodlands to surround and protect Laguayil.

They were to be gathered anyway as the first step to prepare for marching on the black crystalline structure. This has made it all the more urgent.

Noralei also begged an audience with Nililitil to discuss an idea with him and his wise elves. It was granted.

I knew without asking that she was going to propose a larger version of the barrier she carries to protect us against iron weapons and as we discovered – against a hornet attack.

Now, if only Rumble and I could come up with something to contribute.

Meribabell writes:

I convinced Navril to allow us to scour the grounds towards that spot where we knew the crystalline structure lay. He accompanied us, loading us into some skiffs by which we gained the upper town and once there fanned out into the fields.

We easily found what we were looking for. The fields were filled with those ugly black flowers. Together we began the task of uprooting the perfidious plants. Noralei took the opportunity to collect their red seeds and harvested the red ashes of those ones that burst into flame.

Before we returned to Nililitil’s council chambers, the black crystalline structure materialized out the hazy distance – now plain to the view of all.

It was a reality for which Nililitil and his people were unprepared.

Meribabell writes:

Out of abundance of hospitality our captors only questioned us until they were satisfied that we had nothing to do with the flooding of their city. (Well, not intentionally). Then, they fed us and gave us a room for the night. With two guards at the door and two more at the window.

Their questions today were all about our mission or as they expressed it – just what are you doing here in our land?

Navril, the elf who restrained Dunfallon yesterday took us into the elf council where the leader Nililitil presided and introduced us.

Thankfully they know Merlin – favorably so – which is a plus in our favor. As for the High Fairy and the Faerie Kingdom they know little, nor do they care to know more.

But when we mentioned the dark elves and the far away black crystalline structure they were all ears. What we had described was something from their long ago history, something that no longer exists to their knowledge.

With that Nililitil brought us up to the highest spot in their city. And there pointed us to the spot on the horizon where we knew the crystalline structure should have been. But wasn’t.

We were at a loss for words.

Meribabell writes:

Before we set out again this morning, I read a warning message on my scroll from the High Fairy. Actually, in origin, it was from Merlin. His excellency was passing it on to us with some sage advice.

Merlin had been in a session with his seer stone when he was surprised by a vision of flocks of birds emanating from the crystalline structure. So not knowing if any particular flock was headed our way, they are recommending we halt for a day and find somewhere to shield ourselves from view from above.

Dunfallon took this advice to heart and set out to build a burrow big enough for all of us. And invited us in with great ceremony.

Meribabell writes:

A decision has been reached. And it is unanimous. We shall set out from here soon to the crystalline structure. No transport to an area closer to it would be wise. Merlin feels we would be more easily tracked if he were to do so.

Rumble has pulled maps that will give us many options for routes to take. Merlin will mount them on a single parchment with very special abilities that will contain them all.

Under the wizard’s instructions, Dunfallon and Noralei experimented with the red ashes.  They discovered that when dropping them on a glass they moved in the direction of the crystalline structure. So, Merlin has fashioned a glass case to carry them.

It will serve us as a sort of compass.

As I finish writing this, I am up on the rampart with our destination in view. And my pendant is vibrating. Is it urging me on or am I shaking under the weight of responsibility?

The Fairy Diary Day 185 #TFDbyRWOz2

Meribabell writes:

It has been a fateful day. So much has been revealed through the efforts of each one of us. Merlin called everyone together to distill it all down.

Our foe is an ancient one. So old that its name is forgotten. And forgotten because for ages it was forbidden to be spoken. Not because it was a being that was a horror to behold. Far from it. But rather so comely that none could resist its siren wiles.

But it is not known to be from that spot on the horizon. Nor even from anywhere near that quarter. In fact its origin was never discovered. But it did have a vassal whose city dwelt on that very spot. A vassal whose history was recorded in the tome pulled by Rumble and Dunfallon. A race of dark elves defeated long ago by the fairies of yesteryear. Hence explaining the animosity towards the Faerie Kingdom that has reappeared in this day.

Merlin shall delve into the mystery of our foe’s name and hopefully thereby gain the upper hand.

The High Fairy will return to the Faerie Kingdom and ferret out the seeds of the enemy (now that he knows what to look for).

Noralei and I have made no headway with the red ashes. We shall turn them over to Merlin.

My team and I shall plot our way to the crystalline formation.

The Fairy Diary Day 184 #TFDbyRWOz2

Meribabell writes:

Together Merlin and the High Fairy removed the suspicious plant from the garden, exercising extreme caution. And rightfully so. It burst into flames when its roots were exposed. There was naught left but red ashes.

I suggested that they recheck the wizard’s seer stone.

They did. The view is now clear. The veil lifted upon that spot on the horizon. An immense black crystalline structure sits there. I felt an added confirmation to my decision.

Rumble and Dunfallon made breakthroughs in the library also.

They took two enormous volumes to Merlin. He and the High Fairy drew aside to review them.

And Noralei came to me to ask my help in examining the red ashes from the black plant.
