Contemplating the Abyss

Contemplating
The abyss
Is anything simpler
Than this?
Putting together
Endless lists
Of things that may
Or might go wrong
Thinking too much
And losing sleep
Things seeming such
Your peace won’t keep
At straws you clutch
And take the leap
When hope’s at bay
You don’t belong
At end of day
Can you croak the song?

The Fairy Diary Day 311 #TFDbyRWOz2

The Narrator writes:

I was struck with horror upon checking the diary today.

There on the page was the single word “Then” followed by a scrawl that filled the remainder of the page.

It filled me with a horrible apprehension for my friends traveling the Low-way of the dwarves.

Day Eight Hundred Thirty Three #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

We were exhausted by the time morning rolled along, having been awake and moving all day and night.

Our path was easy going, helped along by the glow of the moon while it was up.

Still, as we turned in for the daylight hours, my mind was overfull with the trek so far.

The events from the bridge to the rock formation run over and over in my thoughts, colored by my apprehension that a drone might overtake us before we found it. And the trek through the desert night carried its own unease as we were alert to find our next landmark. A well that should mark an end to this effortless pathway.

It helps to breathe and pray.

Day Five Hundred Fifty One #DiaryoftheEndoftheWorld

Strangely uneasy all day.  But no one else aboard shares my apprehension.

It started this morning over breakfast. The dawn was slow arriving. The darkness clung everywhere, refusing to lift and give place to the light.

I mentioned this to Elijah. He only shrugged his shoulders and kept eating.

I planned to take some exercise on the deck, stopping first to check in on the bridge. Both the Captain and Tomas were present. But each was irritated about something, so I took the cue and launched into my walk down below.

It seemed to me that the storm of a couple of days ago had returned, only this time it was internal instead of external.

Time for the special cabin.
